seeing a black cat is actually good luck because then you get to see a cat
I’ve been thinking about S4 despite the delay in renewal news (ahem, CW 😒). Specifically, about how the curse storyline could play out. And after some mental flowcharting, I’ve decided that the most dramatic turn of events would be for Nancy to trigger the curse accidentally (and then have to race to figure out how to stop it).
The EPs confirmed three things in interviews after the finale aired:
- Ace isn’t an idiot; he knows something is wrong and will figure it out “pretty quickly”
- Nancy will “deny, deny, deny” out of fear she’ll trigger the curse.
- They haven’t worked out exactly what actions would trigger the curse, but that would be one of their first priorities upon returning to the writers room.
It’s really the last two items here that I feel have the most potential. I mean, after a spontaneously shattering barometer had Nancy do a 180 from a shirt-clutching almost kiss, did we really think Ace wouldn’t have alarm bells going off in his head? I didn’t need the EPs to tell me that Ace wasn’t going to let this drop.
It’s also totally in character for Nancy to do whatever it takes to keep him safe…and, in this case, “deny deny deny” feels right- deny her feelings, deny herself any closeness to him or casual touches (😩) and deny that there is any truth to what he might uncover. She’s held his dead body in her arms once, she won’t risk that again- no matter how much pain it will cause both of them.
So with Nancy being so resolute, what could possibly cause her to accidentally trigger the curse? Despite making a joke-post about Bess’ truth serum a few weeks ago, I don’t actually think that will come into play. I mean, it could…but it seems a little too convenient in a duex ex machina kind of way (not to mention redundant).
Instead, I think it would be more interesting if she does something on instinct that she doesn’t realize will trigger the curse- something that qualifies as “acting on” her love for him, without it being something obvious like a kiss.
In my head, I’m envisioning some sort of “taking a bullet” for him type of situation (metaphorically if not literally).
Basically any situation, earthly or paranormal, where Ace is about to be mortally wounded, and Nancy jumps in front of him on pure instinct and puts herself in the line of fire instead.
Now imagine Nancy taking the hit (in a clearly serious but non-fatal way) and having a few seconds of relief…only to have every glass object in a 50 yard radius shatter at once, setting the countdown on Ace’s life.
I guess my point is… solving the curse problem without Ace’s life ever being put in imminent mortal danger seems like a lost dramatic opportunity for a tv show.
nothing to see here. just a beautiful chosen family choosing each other & experiencing the sweetest joy because of it. it's fine. i'm fine. we're all fine.
it doesn’t matter how many “pretend to be dating” fics i read, i’m always fucking in it headfirst every time and i fall for that shit every time. i know the pattern i know the plot twists i know what’s gonna happen but every single fucking time i’m fucking on the edge of my seat wide-eyed whispering like “what’s gonna happen are they gonna fall in love” to myself like of course they are you fucking idiot this happens EVERY TIME but as soon as i see the description and it’s like “x person and x person pretend to do the dating” it’s eternal sunshine of the stupidest fucking mind over here
Omg this is the Disney version of derry girls
the sheer offensiveness of rereading something you wrote, discovering that, hey, it’s actually pretty good, and then reaching the end, wherein you realize that if you want more you actually have to write it
fuck’s sake
writers will look at their own WIPs and be like “is anyone gonna finish that” and then close the tab
