I would guess that she stayed with Castle a night or two, then maybe with Lanie or her dad etc until she found a sublet. It's pretty obvious to me that when she talks about looking for an apartment that she's looking to buy one rather than rent and, especially in Manhattan, that's pretty tough to do because its ridiculously expensive. 

Even renting in Manhattan is hard (as someone who eventually subleased and lived in Brooklyn) since you have to make 30x the rent to qualify for most buildings. Obviously there are loopholes and ways to get around that, but if Beckett's rent was $1500 a month (unlikely) that means she has to make at least $45000 a year. Judging from the NYPD salary scale, she would make more than that, but finding a place she liked, in a neighborhood she enjoyed, at a price she could afford - definitely not a stretch that it took her so long. Manhattan is ridiculous, people. 

Plus, its been said several times that Beckett lives in a rent controlled apartment. That basically means she's living in something that cost most people something like $2500 a month for around $750 or less. Less than 1% of the apartments in Manhattan are still rent controlled and, generally, its far more difficult to get approved for them. Being a cop definitely would help in that regard. 

I think he’s trying to lighten the mood, but it’s also a metaphor. She walks tall in the face of darkness, every single day. When he asks her that question, he wants her to think of the reasons he would say- that she’s brave, she’s smart, she’s determined etc. Her coming up with those reasons internally is a lot stronger than any pep talk he could deliver. I think there’s a lot of subtext to that moment/line.

I agree, but it also strikes me as a compliment to the depth of strength and character that she puts on display through the whole episode. Obviously those are things Castle already knew, but he's just watched her choose to save him over her best shot at the man who ordered her mom killed. Tall almost seems like the only word he could deliver to her that wouldn't oversell the moment or make it far too heavy on what had already been a difficult day.

I was just thinking that. Short hair Beckett is kind of whatever for me, but she's gorgeous in this episode for whatever reason. I wish Stana would go back to a slightly darker hair color, similar to this, far more flattering.
