Boredom is typical caused by a lack of external stimulation or by internal factors like a lack of motivative or lack of sense of purpose. It can come from working on routine tasks, doing repetitive activities, or a lack of novelty in something. However, boredom, despite all it's bad attributes, has been known to be a source of creativity and innovation, as boredom typically makes brains more likely to wander and explore! (x)
