I really wanted her to have had some great rewards or to have enjoyed quite an interesting life from all her hard work… I wanted her on top of the world. So to learn that we are picking up with her sort of scrambling a bit and trying to find her footing.. uhm.. I don’t know.. I think I wanted to imagine that she got there after having some success and a lot of sort of personal triumph… I just had to imagine that for her [laughs].

Ed’s wife Star very kindly called me the day before and asked if I wanted to come to the hospital. I was in complete shock but I said, absolutely, yes. I made it in time. He was unconscious but I think he knew I was there.
They were in the process of deciding if it was time to tell people when he took a turn for the worse. He was such a great guy. He was my pal and I miss him very much.

Fall. The story for Lorelai is pretty…it’s about growth. In an unusual way she grows in that episode. And it also answered - I’ll tell you at some point, but not now - something that Amy and I had always talked about wanting to do on the show…and we did it.

To me it is still that perfect world you can run to, you can get lost in. Just like it was for me as a kid in my basement with the sitcom Laverne and Shirley. It still to this day makes me feel like an exploring kid, like I’m in a dream. I’m sure each and everyone of us, going back to that snow and the tree's and that Stars Hollow sky, experienced a moment of profound wonder.
