'You must be insane, Jaskier, if you think I'd leave you.'
Netflix!Geralt vs. Book!Geralt interacting with Jaskier/Dandelion
Netflix:
Geralt: If life could give me one blessing, it would be to take you off my hands.
Book:
Dandelion: Geralt, don’t leave me here. I’ll never survive by myself. Don’t leave me.
Geralt: You must be insane, Dandelion. You must be insane with fear, if you could think I’d leave you. Give me your hand and jump up on the horse…Don’t worry, I’ll get you across, on a log if I have to…You can write some new poems, and I’ll share my food with you.
-Sword of Destiny (1992, translated to English 2015)
This has been episode 1 of “Things That Happened in the Books That I Wish Would Happen in the Show.”
I’m reading through Sword of Destiny for the first time, and here are some facts I think everyone should know (especially fanfic writers)
-A doppler impersonates Geralt and then instead of fighting just has a conversation with him. Two Geralts at once. Let your brain chew on that for a moment.
-Geralt speaks Mermaid
-Dandelion/Jaskier is responsible (in canon) for writing the story of The Little Mermaid based on one of Geralt’s contracts
-Dandelion/Jaskier wears a rainbow jacket??
-These boys casually hang out at brothels together as an after-adventure reward.
(stuck in hospital, reading witcher sword of destiny)
One thing, among many, that I l love about book!geralt is how passively aggressively pissed he gets when someone treats him disrespectfully or is generally rude about his witcher-Ness. TV!Geralt is all quiet 'hmm's and sad resignation that humans are just Like That, but book!geralt is like 'lol get fucked, guess who isn't helping you now you dumb slut', I love it
“You found me! Oh, Geralt! I was waiting all the time! For so very long…We’ll be together now, won’t we? Now we’ll be together, won’t we? Geralt! Forever! Say it!”
“Forever, Ciri.“
“It’s like they said, Geralt! It’s like they said! Am I your destiny? Say it! Am I your destiny?”
Yurga saw the Witcher’s eyes. And was very astonished. He heard his wife’s soft weeping, felt the trembling of her shoulders. He looked at the Witcher and waited, tensed, for his answer. He knew he would not understand it, but he waited for it. And heard it.
“You’re much more than that, Ciri. Much more.”
Please read Sword of Destiny by Andrzej Sapkowski
The rest of that quote basically states one day they broke the unicorn, they fell as it tore and had a good laugh. Geralt was very happy about this.
The books are very good and worth reading.
