SMUTSY’S TAKE on the OMEGA-VERSE
I have had a few of you beloved angels tell me that you know absolutely nothing or very little about the Omega-verse, yet you precious little beans STILL read my writing! (´∩ω∩`) You wholesome BLESSED little love muffins deserve some context, so here it is: Smutsy’s Take on the Omega-Verse (Volume 5 of Shit Nobody Explicitly Asked for That Smutsy is Posting Anyway).
~ SMUTSY’S TAKE ON THE OMEGA-VERSE ~
The omega-verse, or the ABO (Alpha, Beta, Omega) dynamic is a theme used pretty often in fan-fiction (especially the 18+ kinds), and of course is the theme I use for my alpha-BNHA-boys blog! Everyone’s omega-verse is a little different, so just in case anyone should ever need it, here is everything you need to know about Smutsy’s Omega-Verse! (*´꒳`*)
In the Omega-Verse, the main idea is that everybody falls into 1 of 3 categories:
- Alphas
- Betas
- Omegas
You are born into one of these categories, and unlike the “quirkless” concept from BNHA, there is no one who doesn’t fall into one of these 3 categories.
In the “universe” in which I write my stories, Betas are the most common, making up about 60% of the population, while Alphas and Omegas each make up about 20% of the population, making them a bit of a rarity.
When it comes to the the biological sexes:
90% of Alphas are male, with the remaining 10% are female; 90% of Omegas are female, and the remaining 10% are male; and Betas are split right down the middle, with about 50% being male and 50% being female.
(TLDR) In other words: most Alphas are male, most Omegas are female, and Betas are about 50/50.
In terms of physiology, all 3 groups share the following traits:
- All 3 groups have a scent gland. A scent gland is a small thin gland in the dermal layer of the neck that is positioned on either the right or left side of the nape. The scent gland produces the chemicals/hormones that give a person a distinct smell. These substances are found in the person’s blood, saliva, and sweat. This ties in with the secondary function of the scent gland, which is to act as a “blank canvas” for their mate to “imprint” their own scent upon. This is most effectively done through biting the scent gland, allowing the saliva and/or blood to permanently “mark” their partner. As such, this process is typically called “marking,” and is a symbol of a life-long commitment to a partner.
- All 3 groups have a period of sexual excitement that they experience once a month. Males go into a rut, and females go into a heat. These periods of increased libido are biological breeding mechanisms that can last anywhere from 24 hours to 5-6 days depending on the individual. Alphas and Omegas present exaggerated symptoms compared to Betas, but they all share a few fundamental traits during this time; with males becoming more aggressive, and females becoming more submissive.
- Also, all Alphas possess some form of a knot. Knots are essentially a portion of their anatomy that, during and after ejaculation, swells up to interlock them and their partner. This helps increase the likelihood of conception, and lasts anywhere from 3-5 minutes. Females do not possess a “knot” per se, but have a certain muscle within their vaginal canal that serves the same purpose. Their bodies are able to pick up on chemical signals that their mate is near ejaculation, and their body sends signals to those muscles to suddenly contract. This results in a pressure change, and causes the penis to feel a tug that draws it deepers inside the vagina (lasting anywhere from 3-5 minutes). This tight contraction followed by the suction-like pressure-change acts as the female Alpha’s “knot.” [Credit to @bubblegum-bunn for reminding me about this point! Thank you!]
Alphas are unique in following ways:
- Alphas tend to have a more aggressive, assertive, and protective instinctual nature than Betas or Omegas do. They are also considered to be more physically gifted; being much stronger, possessing greater endurance, having increased libido, and exhibiting heightened sensory abilities (sight, hearing, etc.).
- While not experiencing a rut (or heat), Alphas display certain characterizing habits, including nesting and guarding. Nesting (for an Alpha) means collecting things for their existing or would-be mate as small tokens of appreciation, and reinforcing their environment to be as safe as possible for their existing/would-be mate and/or young. Guarding means displaying typical protective behavior over their existing or would-be mate and/or young (the level or “style” of protectiveness varies from Alpha to Alpha).
- During ruts (or heats), Alphas become highly aggressive. They will display extreme levels of protectiveness over their existing or would-be mate, some going so far as to become combative or violent with potential threats. Alphas are notorious for their sexual appetite during this time, resulting in a near predatory state of lust.
Omegas are unique in the following ways:
- Omegas tend to have a more submissive, altruistic, and nurturing instinctual nature than Alphas or Betas do. They are better with children, they make better care-givers, and they tend to be better at communicating and empathizing with others.
- While not experiencing a heat (or rut), Omegas display certain characterizing habits, such as nesting and fretting. Nesting (for an Omega) means tidying/preparing their environment for their existing or would-be mate and/or young. Fretting means showing concern for their existing or would-be mate and/or young, affectionately scolding them if necessary.
- During heats (or ruts), Omegas become highly submissive. They will display extreme levels of neediness for their existing or would-be mate, and will exhibit nesting habits more frequently. During this time, Omegas are known for being exceedingly desperate for an alpha, and this often results in them going into a near inebriated state of lust.
ABO Dynamic Pairings
When it comes to pairings, I tend to focus on Alpha x Omega relationships (with the BNHA boys being the Alphas, and the Reader being the Omega), simply because of my love for the Alpha-Omega dynamic, and for how well they work together.
In my omega-verse, I adopted a sort of pattern for how the different groups of people interact with each other. When it comes to pairings, those traits I have bestowed upon the groups ends up playing a roll in how prospective relationships work between them.
- Alpha x Alpha relationships don’t tend to work because they are likely to feel the biological urge to compete and fight all the time, not to mention they would both feel enticed to find more submissive partners.
- Alpha x Beta relationships are capable of working, but can fall into competitive behaviors (with the Beta usually ending up disgruntled at their subsequent submissive role). The Alpha would feel enticed to find a more submissive partner, and the Betas would feel enticed to find a more balanced dominant/submissive partner.
- Beta x Omega relationships are capable of working, but the Beta is constantly having to defend the Omega from Alphas, and there is a more than likely chance that the Beta will lose. The Beta would feel enticed by a more balanced dominant/submissive partner, and the Omega would feel enticed by a more dominant partner.
- Alpha x Omega relationships work very well, because they are (in a way) biological opposites, and balance each other out.
- Beta x Beta relationships work very well, as they both possess equal amounts of dominance and submission, and don’t feel the biological urge to compete.
In the end, it’s all about balance, and how the roles of these individuals play off of one another in their romantic relationships. Of course, ABO friendships don’t have to follow these rules, but romantically, their biological nature plays an unforgiving part of who they are compatible with.

That concludes the basics, or at least, all the important points that I can think of right now. If I remember any other ideas/concepts I left out, then I will come back to this post and add them. Hopefully this helps any new-comers or ABO-curious people understand the omega-verse a little better! Like I said, this is just my version of the omega-verse, and while it is very similar to the ones used by most people- it is bound to have its striking differences in comparison to others. Either way, thank you for reading, and I really do hope this helps! (^ω^ʃƪ)
PLEASE, free to leave a comment and ask me any questions you may have! Thank you darlings for taking the time to read this, and don’t worry, I have actual content coming soon- I promise. (*´∪`)
