Jack may have learned Winchester stupid but he’s also learned Winchester devious extortion and I am here for it.
Jack sure is a real Winchester. He pulled a TFW classic. “You’re all I have, and I care about you, so I’m leaving.” Literally, none of them haven’t done it.
His family (◠‿◠✿)
Angels are his ‘men’ now. No longer ‘siblings’, ‘brothers’ - that’s not family anymore, in Cas’ own words.
The 12.22 Family Hug
At the end of 12x22, we had that beautiful moment where the Winchester family was reunited and had forgiven one another their transgressions. They all go in for a massive family hug, and it’s fucking beautiful. But…something was off. Take a look at these faces during the hug.
One of these faces is not like the others. Can you pick out which one?
When I first saw this moment, my gut reaction was “Aww, Dean, after everything you just went through, your family is together! Why aren’t you smiling and happy like Sam and Mary?!”
Then my brain came to a screeching halt, because I knew the answer and I was shocked it hadn’t immediately occurred to me.
We’re still missing a Winchester, one who is very important to Dean.
In fact he mentioned earlier in the episode that, like Mary, he had just found this person who is now lost.
He got Mary back, but it’s not enough to bring him that joy that Sam and Mary seem to have here.
He is still pining. He still needs Cas. And his expression in that moment tells us both of these things very loudly and very clearly.
Everything about this post is so on point. I only wanted to add the one scene where we do finally get a genuine smile from Dean: after Cas heals him.
Look at that adorable, shy little asshole. He loves his Cas, and he can’t hide it
It is been a while.
Still not over this. It was so satisfying to watch him vocalize his feelings for once, instead of suffering in silence like he’s done in most of his other arcs throughout the seasons.
inktober day 28! i promised i would do this comic on the twits yesterday bc it made me laugh (also, chuck is singing elliot from scrubs’ “i told you so” song)
chuck’s proven point as to why the chapter “why i don’t answer prayers, and you should be glad I don’t” in his autobiography is justified and amara’s answering review article “why you’re going to get karate chopped in the neck”
when you invite your friend over and then your dad insists on being so weird and of course your nerdy uncle (who basically never leaves anyway) is there too
GUYS.
Ok, so while watching Brother’s Keeper, I thought I recognized the picture Sam pulled out (top) as the one from Home, but I thought I remembered John being in the right part of the image, behind Dean. I thought ‘oh wow, interesting that the picture’s been damaged so that it’s blurred John out of the image - that’s symbolic.’ and I’ve been focusing mostly on the idea that it was seeing Mary that pulled Dean away from killing Sam - and specifically, it was seeing her that triggered his realization that he was following John’s order to kill Sam if necessary, and his decision not to kill Sam was very much in line with Dean’s move away from the “old story,” as it were, and towards a new way of living, yadda yadda, that’s all for a different post.
What THIS one is about is the fact that John was purposefully edited out of the picture. The bottom pic is from Home, and I’ve just cranked up the exposure so you can see the image better, and just, John is supposed to be right there. But other than that change, the lightening of a lot of the shadows, and some weathering from being carried around for years, its the exact same picture!
I don’t quite know what to do with this information but it excites me a lot.

OH CHUCK, DEAN IS NOT JOHN'S SON (10X03)
THE BLOOD TYPE THEORY
Okay, so kaeostennyo SENT ME THIS:
"Mexisaurus Rex, Meta master, I don’t know if anyone else has mentioned this anywhere yet. Either SPN has a major continuity error, or we have a problem. Dean’s blood type, as of episode 10.03, is O. John Winchester’s blood type is AB. This means, that Dean can’t be John’s son. I can elaborate more on the genetics, but basically, O is a recessive type, and if one parent is AB, there’s no way their child can come out O. I an FLOORED."
And I am SO SURPRISED, LIEK, OH MY SHIZNITS, APWOEIFHAPCKXNVOA9E8UETY0@&!%&^$%@*&^(#*!@&^)IFHIOJSH(*&%&%$#Q&^.
DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS?
IT’S IMPOSSIBLE FOR DEAN TO BE JOHN’S SON.
IT IS PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR DEAN TO BE JOHN’S SON.
JOHN IS NOT DEAN’S FATHER.
SOME OF HOW HE ACTED TOWARDS DEAN COMPARED TO SAM MAKES A BIT MORE SENSE IN AN ASSBUTT WAY.
JOHN’S NOT DEAN’S DAD.
JOHN’S NOT HIS FLIPPITY FLOPPITY FRICKITY FRACKING DAD, FORK, WHAT THE FLIPPITY FLIP 891274jhdosufy0823y6987469*@&)$(*^@#&*HISD*&^E(W*R&YHKJS09870*&^(*&)(&.
WHO THE HELL IS DEAN’S REAL DAD?
*AN EXTENDED EXPLANATION*
1) This was the work of the props and background people. THE PEOPLE WHO MADE THE UPSIDE DOWN BISEXUAL FLAG APPEAR IN NAOMI’S OFFICE WALL DURING THE CRYPT SCENE AND TWEETED ABOUT IT. These people know what they’re doing.
2) Dean ONLY HAS TO BE DESCENDANT OF ADAM AND CAIN TO BE MAKE THE STORYLINE FOR THE APOCALYPSE STORYLINE TO WORK. It didn’t say WHICH DESCENDANT HE CAME FROM SPECIFICALLY. John may have had to have married Mary ONLY TO HAVE SAM.
3) Sam specifically points out that he got “Dean’s blood type” when he was getting blood. Why would Sam bring attention to the blood if it wasn’t important in the episode? It’s not like they talked about that when they were, say, giving Crowley blood. The blood type is type O as well. TYPE O IS A UNIVERSAL DONOR. AB is one of the rarest blood types and a universal receiver, or a pretty much close to universal receiver if I remember correctly. SAM DIDN’T NEED TO SPECIFICALLY GET TYPE O BLOOD. There is a chance that a type AB can have a type O child, but it’s a pretty slim chance. Not many type Os come from type ABs. If Dean were actually a type AB, then Dean wouldn’t necessarily need type O specifically for the de-demonizing process.
*WHY IT JUST SORT OF MAKES SENSE TO ME*
1) Dean acts way more like his mother than his father. Sam acts more like his father than his mother. Dean looks more like his mother than his father. Sam looks more like his father than his mother. Henry Winchester even pointed out that Sam seems more like John than Dean does.
2) John has always been distant with Dean and has cared more about Sam’s protection than Dean’s protection.
3) Dean has always been looking for John’s approval. He gave up chances of being normal for John.
4) Hart of Dixie (another CW show) has used blood type as a way to show how a character WAS NOT another character’s child. That father wasn’t sure what to do with her and became distant and cold with her after the moment he learned she wasn’t his daughter. She was always looking for approval from her father and became a doctor for her father.
5) Dean and Sam don’t look super alike. This doesn’t mean they may not still be full on brothers, but the Supernatural casting is usually spot on and Castiel and Hannah look more alike than Sam and Dean.
6) This would be the type of plot twist the writers would throw at us. Like bringing in Adam, bringing in Godstiel, turning Dean into a demon, etc. NOBODY would see this coming.
.
Look, I’m not saying this is an end all theory or anything, it’s just…a lot of things make sense because of this and this would be the craziest plot twist EVER.
*ADDITIONAL INFORMATION*
Just thought I would add something someone sent to me via message:
"Hi!
I thought I’d just send you my research into the blood thing. I got a little obsessed and did some fact checking.
Whole post in full:http://anjika-flan.tumblr.com/post/100796369856/oh-chuck-dean-is-not-johns-son-10x03
Fact check summary: AB male can have an O kid so rarely it’s barely worth mentioning and they would be more likely if Asian (even then best odds are 1 in 10k, second best 1 in 100k, Caucasian is not even worth noting).
TV Tropes claims AB was on John’s dog tags. This is the best confirmation I was referred to.
Dean totally said “you never had a brother” omfg.
<3 Thanks for putting up the post, this is so interesting! If it doesn’t turn out to be an error I’m gonna cry so hard!
— skamartist”
Thank you for the wonderful message, skamartist.
The information from the wonderful anjika-flan:
"Fact check: http://www.canadiancrc.com/paternity_determination_blood_type.aspx Yup, AB Dad cannot have an O kid. But I cannot find a specific canon confirmation of John’s blood type (help a girl out? <3 ), though it seems to be common knowledge. More fact checking: It is possible, but rare and they would have to be Asian, and incredibly lucky. http://genetics.thetech.org/ask/ask427 ”For example, one estimate I saw stated that about 0.03% or 3 out of every 10,000 Koreans have this blood type. And that is the group where it is most common!
The next most common group is the Japanese. There it looks like about 0.001% of folks have the cis-AB allele. Or 1 out of every 100,000.
So even though it is more common for an AB parent to have an O child amongst the Koreans and Japanese, it still isn’t that common. And it is much, much less common in other ethnic groups.”
Still keeping an eye out for how we know John is AB.
Reminder: Mother’s blood type O does not carry over. SCIENCE! Update! Fact check complete: butterflydm said: oh, i just found out where they got that info (if we trust tvtropes) — apparently it was on john’s military dog tags in S2. so, it was minor prop detail type of canon
So maybe? Maybe not? I guess we’ll find out in due time, in the meantime here’s some quotes to think about if this turns out to be true:
"Winchesters. Do gooders, fighting the natural order."
“My Mother.”
"You never had a brother."
"This family is all we’ve ever had." "Well, then we’ve got nothing!" "
*THIS ALSO DOESN’T MEAN…*
1) That Dean and Sam are not still brothers - they would just be half brothers if this theory is correct.
2) That Dean cannot still view John as his father. Father’s aren’t blood based, they’re who you grew up with and who cares for you more. John can be viewed as Dean’s father, even if he’s not a blood related to the guy, just like Bobby can be viewed as Dean’s surrogate father even though Bobby’s not blood related to Dean.
3) That Dean and/or Sam don’t already know about this, if this is anything. They may full well know, but never talk about it. Dean may full well know and Sam never questioned the blood thing, thus making him partially oblivious to this point.
4) That this will be important in the long run because Dean’s probably been living with this information since the first time he needed blood from the hospital, which was probably after his mother died, if this is true.
ANOTHER ADDITION FROM obsessionisaperfume:
"From Home of the Nutty, 2.04 (Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things)”
ANOTHER INTERESTING ADDITION FROM iwatchthepie:
“
Fully expecting this to be a continuity error, but oh man, if it’s not, it sure puts a different spin on the conversation with the Cupid in “My Bloody Valentine.” (Transcript stolen from the superwiki, as always.)
Dean: Why does heaven care if Harry meets Sally? Cupid: Oh, mostly they don’t. You know, certain bloodlines, certain destinies. Oh, like yours. Sam: What? Cupid: Yeah, the union of John and Mary Winchester—Very big deal upstairs, top priority arrangement. Mm. Dean: Are you saying that you fixed-up our parents? Cupid: Well, not me, but… Yeah. Well, it wasn’t easy, either. Ooh, they couldn’t stand each other at first. But when we were done with them—Perfect couple. Dean: Perfect? Cupid: Yeah. Dean: They’re dead! Cupid: I’m sorry, but… the orders were very clear. You and Sam needed to be born. Your parents were just, uh…meant to be. (sings) A match made in heaven- heaven! (Dean punches Cupid) Dean: Son of a bitch! (Cupid disappears) Dean: Where is he? Where’d he go?! Castiel: I believe you upset him. Dean: Upset him?!
They couldn’t stand eachother, but Sam needed to exist, so Heaven made them get together. And if we assume that Dean knows John isn’t his bio-dad, then Dean’s reaction is along the lines of “I upset him? He just reminded me of one of my oldest sore spots!”
Sam and Dean could have different fathers and still be descended from Cain and Abel. The farther back you go, the more likely any given two people are to have a common ancestor. (The Wikipedia article on pedigree collapse talks about this a little bit.) If we assume that Cain and Abel were real and literal and all that, there probably weren’t that many people around at that time, so strictly speaking, being descended from both of them is not that unlikely at this point.
It would be a really weird retcon to make now, though. I mean, I feel like I haven’t been watching a show that’s going to have a Your Actual Father is Some Other Guy storyline for the lead(s). (If we’re going to open this door, for all we know John isn’t Sam’s bio-father either.)
It also makes this convo from Heaven and Hell a little different:
Dean: Huh. Anna: I was stationed on earth 2,000 years. Just… watching… silent… invisible… out on the road… sick for home… waiting on orders from an unknowable father I can’t begin to understand. So don’t tell me that — Dean laughs. Anna: What is so funny? What? Dean: Nothing. Sorry. It’s just … I can relate.
If this turns out to be deliberate and planned then Dean has had two distant, impossible to please fathers! :P
ETA: Oops, I have no idea how that conversation with the Cupid got pasted in at the end. But hey, it gives me an excuse to add the following.
This is the show that has been emphasizing that family doesn’t end with blood for a while. So, on the one hand, if it isn’t just a continuity error, it shouldn’t matter that Sam and Dean maybe don’t have the exact same parentage. On the other, it is coming up at a time when Sam and Dean’s relationship has been seriously shaken.
Also, if John knew … I guaran-damn-tee he would have used it against Dean when he thought he needed to. But he would have held on to Dean because he needed him to watch Sam and be an asset in the whole “get revenge for wife’s death” thing.”
unintentionaloracle ADDED:
"GOING OFF THIS THEORY, MAYBE THAT’S WHY MARY AND JOHN WERE FIGHTING IN DEAN’S HEAVEN/IN HIS MEMORIES IN “DARK SIDE OF THE MOON”!"
And, you know, that’s a possibility.
castiel-is-the-fallen-angel explained in hir post:
"Ok. I read this whole post that I saw in attackofthekillermexisaurusrex, about how Dean maybe is not John’s son, and the more I read, the more it made sense.
Thanks to a friend, I thought two things:
1. In the episode where Dean goes back in time, we have this dialogue:
Sam: she can leave dad. That’s what. You got to leave John Mary: What? Sam: when this is all over, walk away and never look back Dean: So we’re never born. He’s right. Mary: I-I can’t. You’re saying that you’re my children, and now you’re saying - Sam: You have no other choice. Dean: There’s a big difference between dying and never being born. And trust me, we’re okay with it, I promise you that. Mary: Ok, well I’m not. Sam: Listen, you think you can have that normal life that you want so bad… But you can’t. I’m sorry. It’s all gonna go rotten. You are gonna die, and your children will be cursed. Mary: There… there has to be a way. Dean: No, this is the way. Leave John. Mary: I can’t Dean: this is bigger than us. There are so many more lives at stake — Mary: You don’t understand. I can’t…. It’s too late. I’m… I’m pregnant
If you notice, the two brothers are convinced her mother that everything will be resolved if Mary moves away from John. They didn’t say NOT to have children, but has no children with John. But still, at the end of the episode, Mary is pregnant (from approximately 7 months) and looks happy with John. This would be the continuation of the pregnancy that she mentions (for now, I’ll leave it here, I will continue below)
2. In another episode where Dean goes back in time - the first time he sees Mary - Azazel possesses the body of Samuel and he believes that Dean is his “psychic boy”
Dean: Oh, I came here to kill you Azazel: Hey. Wait a minute. If that slug marries your mommy, are you.. Are you one of my psychic kids? [sniffs] Azazel: No. Not you. Maybe you got a sis. Or a bro
Now, if we put the two scenes together, it could be that Dean was not the son of John. I mean, what if Mary’s first pregnancy was a girl? (give an example) But this child dies at birth. Mary, after that devastating fact, remember the words of Sam and Dean that it is better not to be born, so everything would be fine. So she think the death of his daughter, is a signal and she get away from John. She started a new life, where she meets Dean’s father … but an unfortunate fact * ahem, ahem, intervention from heaven * Mary is “forced” to go back to John? I mean, like they say [in the post] Cupid said “I’m sorry, but… the orders were very clear. You and Sam needed to be born.” Needed to be born, nothing more. He didn’t say that both were born of the union of Mary and John. They just needed to exist.
That would also explain this
(uploaded by deanwinchester on twitter)
that Mary and John are much older than they should if Dean had four years image. Do you understand? the first pic is from another pregnancy.”
Now, I don’t think that she had a miscarriage, because the timing is right for Dean, but just because she’s pregnant doesn’t necessarily mean that she’s pregnant with John’s child. John and Mary had a lot of fights. They didn’t get along well, even if Dean and Sam came at a time where they were okay. It could be John’s kid, but from how they would fight and separate from each other for days on end, who knows? People who are happy and not stressed with one another definitely don’t age that quickly.
