i think about this a lot
genuinely about to cry at the word for france in te reo māori. so like. almost every country name is just the english name but altered to only have letters that exist in te reo (so like canada = kānata, norway = nōwei etc) except france that is literally just fucking. wīwī. as in ouioui. imgoing to fucking die
The Pacific Ocean is huge.
If they make an earth flag it should be of this angle to piss off the most amount of people
We found it, the map that basically ONLY has New Zealand 🇳🇿
I was going through my emails and one of my online orders has been dispatched and when I ordered it I had to put in a state but New Zealand doesn’t have states and I was annoyed so I put “New Zealand doesnt have states you fuckass” and now in the dispatch email under delivery addess it totally has “New Zealand doesnt have states you fuckass” as part of it woops.
Yeah so
Yep okay
Sorry mail person
From the prime minster’s speech today:
New medical modelling considered by the Cabinet today suggests that without the measures I have just announced up to tens of thousands of New Zealanders could die from COVID-19.
Everything you will all give up for the next few weeks, all of the lost contact with others, all of the isolation, and difficult time entertaining children – it will literally save lives. Thousands of lives.
The worst case scenario is simply intolerable. It would represent the greatest loss of New Zealanders’ lives in our country’s history. I will not take that chance.
I would rather make this decision now, and save those lives, and be in lockdown for a shorter period, than delay, see New Zealanders lose loved ones and their contact with each other for an even longer period. I hope you are all with me on that.
I have one final message. Be kind. I know people will want to act as enforcers. And I understand that, people are afraid and anxious. We will play that role for you. What we need from you, is support one another. Go home tonight and check in on your neighbours. Start a phone tree with your street. Plan how you’ll keep in touch with one another. We will get through this together, but only if we stick together. Be strong and be kind.
NZ is now in full lockdown as at 2pm Monday 23/03/2020
Raised to level 3 alert level as of now as a transition time. On Thursday it will be level 4 for 4 weeks minimum. Practice self isolation. Be in contact only with those you are in isolation with. Kia kaha Aotearoa https://covid19.govt.nz/
when girls like horses we call them ‘horse girls’ and mock them for their bond with giant nightmare leg-finger creatures
but if boys like horses we call them ‘future cowboys’ and ‘rugged outdoors men’
I’m just saying, I’ve met a lot more horse girls than horse boys so when the dystopic breakdown of society hits us, it’s not going to be roving bands of young men on horseback (they don’t know how to ride, they haven’t B O N D ED)
it will be Kelly from elementary school and her band of fifty midwest girls in pink cowgirl boots who have come for your resources
Wanna know a fun fact?
When they were filming Lord of the Rings, they needed A LOT of extras to be able to ride horses into battle. They couldn’t find nearly enough men with horses/ riding skills, so they hired just like a crap ton of women who were expert riders, slapped some beards on ‘em, and called it good. The VAST majority of the riders in that film are horse girls. Horse girls win battles.
Horse girls win battles.
Massive respect for NZ and its people. You showed the world what unity and compassion is!
Damn straight
“Hijab is not a culture thing. It’s a religion thing. No matter what skin color a Muslim woman is, she wears hijab as a sign of piety and to follow God’s words. There are lots of Caucasian hijabis, you know, so wearing a hijab is never a cultural misappropriation. Any woman (Muslim or not) is welcome to try and wear a hijab.”
Not my words, but I liked this comment from @vannyahargreeves and thought I’d repost it. I’m very impressed with NZ’s ability to unify as a country.
I have so much respect for the people of New Zealand for the actions that they have taken in the days following the Christchurch terrorist attack. On a slight sidenote tho: America, take some fucking notes, please, for the love of god
My heart breaks for your communities today 💔 this is so so gut wrenching and painful, I hope you have loved ones to gather close at this time. NZ has so much beauty and love and kindness, this is just so unfair and tragic
the thing about THIS shooting is that it made me realise
yeah, these are my people and this is my home (muslims, new zealand)
but the thing is, i’ve realised it’s always been my people and my home, because these days i’m equally removed from my local communities as i am from, say, america. i see more of america, i see more of the uk and europe than i do of here, because i’m sick and i never leave the house and i spend my time online.
this event hit me equally as hard as every other mass shooting and every other horrific crime against people of colour or queer people or muslims or jewish people or disabled people that i’ve heard about.
there was nothing different about this one, it’s just one more of the same
and i hate it all and i want it to stop
new zealand isn’t immune to the ideas of the rest of the world, therefore i have to speak up with better ideas to counteract the negativity with love. and all i can do, all i can EVER do is write more stories representing the people who the world treats like this, because they’re all me, and they’re all you, and we need positive representation in stories so people aren’t afraid of us, and also so we have something nice to read when the real world is too much, because it always is.
i’ve never said much, or anything, about the terrible world events that happen all too often, and i barely think i have a claim to speak on this one, but i’m always thinking of the people who gets hurt by these things, directly or indirectly. and i’m pretty sure that’s everyone. therefore i wish everyone safety and love, and more understanding (or tolerance) from other people about our differences, always.

John Oliver’s NZ cutout.
The native Maori people of New Zealand have tattooed their faces for centuries. They had a complex warrior culture before the arrival of Europeans, and suffered under early colonialism, but have experienced a cultural revival since the 60′s.
The marks are called moko, and are etched with chisels instead of needles to leave grooves along with the ink. The true form is sacred, unique to each person, and distinct from European tattoos that mimic that traditional style.
There arent many pictures non combat related that look this badass
Actually most Tā moko are done with modern tattoo equipment these days, but some people get them done the traditional way. And, as others have said, they’re not for Non- Māori, as they have specific meanings and significance. If you want a tattoo with Māori style, you can get a kirituhi. These avoid any designs associated with particular tribes or famous people you’re not related to.
Kirituhi is a Māori style tattoo either made by a non-Māori tattooer, or made for a non-Māori wearer. Kirituhi has mana of it’s own and is a design telling the unique story of the wearer in the visual language of Māori art and design. Kiri means ‘skin’, and tuhi means ‘to write, draw, record, adorn or decorate with painting’. Kirituhi is not restricted to only Māori people, and it is a way for Māori to share our cultural arts with people from around the world in a respectful manner, and for non-Māori artists to enjoy our beautiful art form as well. I happily do kirituhi for my clients around the world and it is a privilege to do such work for them. Kirituhi is no lesser an artform than moko, however it is different and I believe these differences must be acknowledged and respected, so that the integrity of our taonga Māori – moko, is maintained around the world.
Moko is uniquely Māori and it is strictly reserved to be done by Māori, for Māori. If either the recipient or tattooer do not have Māori whakapapa, then the resulting design is a Māori Style tattoo or kirituhi, NOT moko. The word moko originated from the Māori atua (god) of volcanic activity and earthquakes, Rūaumoko – therefore the origin of tā moko is divine and sacred – to me this is no small thing, nor should it be dismissed.
As my mentor once told me, ‘moko is about 99% culture, and 1% tattoo’.

The conjunction of the modern suit, the traditional moko and the “sizing-you-up” expression is impressive. There’s a feeling that any boardroom battle with this gentleman would start with a Haka…
I was disappointed that they weren’t this time around and will be making a submission via the link in the article.
Hoping you and your family are okay, just read about the earthquakes in your area.

your friendly neighbourhood new zealander is COMPLETELY OKAY
me and my sister stayed up listening to the radio all night. lots of drama, half a dozen sirens echoing around the sky at 2am
the power was out for 15 hours, my dad couldn’t go into work today, and the house is still moving (seriously, it’s like unexpectedly being on a boat every few minutes), but all humans and animals in my corner of the world are just fine
