I will be seeing you again, Sam.

Cassie from Route 666 1.13 was played by Megalyn Echikunwoke (x)

The reaper Billie was played by Lisa Berry, this was her first appearance on Supernatural (x)

Thanks, I’d looked up the credits because it probably wasn’t the same actress but I hadn’t found them.

It still feels icky to me that last episode they hired a boy who looked a lot like Todd from 4.08 and in this one they hired a girl who looks a lot like Cassie. It’s probably just a coincidence, but a girl can dream :)

That was Todd, Ryan Grantham, it just took a while for his info to update (x). IMDB doesn’t put up the full cast list until after an episode’s aired (to avoid spoilers) and sometimes this can take a day or two.

The season 8 DVD commentary talked about Supernatural reusing extras because they cast those parts in Vancouver where the pool of available extras is limited. Sometimes the person they like best for a part was already an extra in an earlier season.

OMG THANKS! I’d looked him up the day after the premiere aired and since he wasn’t credited yet I’d thought it was some other extra! Jeez, you’re such a helpful person to have around! Thanks again!

So that’s why Samandriel was Alfie, and now Hunter Boy 1 is Todd… It would be interesting though if they actually cast the actor as their old character that’s grown or changed, just as it would have been interesting if they’d written the reaper as Cassie because the actresses look so much alike. Maybe it’s because casting people as characters rather than extras means they have to pay more?

I don’t think it would cost more, that’s usually determined by screen time and interactions. These characters are written as different people and casting doesn’t happen until after a script has been approved. Changing them to be the same character would involve putting in background info and connecting the story-lines, it would require trying to squeeze a lot of extra stuff into a script that’s already full length. The producers usually have some involvement with selecting major cast members but extras tend to be chosen entirely by the casting department. The writers/producers/director often don’t get a list of extras until they start prepping the episode and by then it’s too late for major rewrites.

Megalyn and Lisa have similar jawlines and foreheads but the rest of their features are different, I don’t think they were purposely trying to get fans thinking of Cassie when they cast this actress. The lighting in this scene was really bad, for part of it her face was completely in shadows, things like that can cause the mind to play tricks and think we recognize someone we’ve seen before. Basically your brain tries to fill in the blanks if it can’t get a good look at someone’s face.

This scene bothered me when I first saw it. Cas is bleeding out on the floor; why is Dean’s first reaction to look at Sam instead of, say, rushing to help him?

I just recently realized what was actually going on. As many, many people have pointed out, Cas is in almost the exact same position as the last time Dean saw him. While it’s been a few months since that happened for the audience, just remember it’s been, like, three or four days tops since that happened for Dean. Just yesterday, he was having guilt hallucinations about a bloody, beat-up Castiel in his mirror.

So here he is, in the same spot as three days ago, seeing a bloody, beat-up Cas in the same position he was when Dean beat him up, but this time asking him for help.

The look he’s giving Sam isn’t “what do we do now?”. It’s “are you seeing the same thing I’m seeing?” Is Cas actually here, or is this a residual hallucination still following him around?
