TRIGGER WARNING: mention of suicide, mention of rape, depression, slut-shaming, bullying.
in the wake of Amanda Todd's suicide, i want to share my own story. i don't know if i will regret putting this out into the world, because it's a story i've seldom told since it happened, but more than ever i feel a need to tell it. it's a long one, so bear with me.
Update: I'm thankful for the conversations rebloggers have been having on whether the term "slut" can be alienating in discussions about rape culture (slut-shaming, Slutwalks) because not all victims of rape self-identify as "sluts"; and whether "slut-shaming" should be used interchangeably with "rape culture" (I think not).
In conclusion, while I very much agree with the original posting, I also agree with some of the disagreement that followed in the reblogs of other bloggers. The above posting expresses two separate ideas that are sometimes related but not to be used interchangeably. I agree, with all of my heart, with both ideas. However, although often related, they are still separate.
