"guyliner" "man purse" "man bun" "manly tears" you ever notice how cis society feels the need to set apart any "feminine" thing a man does as being somehow its own, masculine version of that thing? the hairstyle is a MAN bun if it's on a MAN and just a BUN if it's on a WOMAN, as if the idea that it could just be gender-neutral as a style is deeply threatening. it's not "some men are now also wearing eyeliner" it's "GUYLINER is a NEW TREND among guys isn't it crazy?!?!" i'm so tired
let me also be clear: this is not usually a way of masculinizing or legitimizing these behaviors. men (and "men") are criticized and punished for engaging or experimenting with these "feminine" things but the things themselves are also othered and set apart as their own, aberrant feminine-man behaviors, NOT as men engaging in things women do. do you see the difference? it's the subtle trick of making you a failed man while also saying you can never do anything not as a man. masculinity is prison: you are both inmate & guard
if you're wondering how to classify this by the way -- homophobia? misogyny? -- the term you're grasping for is Oppositional Sexism, as coined by Julia Serrano https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexism#Oppositional_sexism
the single most underutilized transfeminist term tbh
