Unspoken Words
A/N: We always talk about how Riley changed peoples lives and blah blah blah—let’s give the man himself some credit! Liam changed her life just as much. A prompt request from the BFF @alj4890
Cordonia really is beautiful at night, Riley thought quietly. She glances down at her hand interlaced with Liam’s, a sight she never grew tired of, before turning back to stare at the night sky.
The warmth of her husband beside her, guiding her along the familiar pathway has always brought a sense of belonging. His voice tonight, masculine and light, resonates with her as Liam tells her about his day. A routine they began long before the titles of husband and wife.
It was almost difficult for Riley to discern a time where Liam wasn’t in her life. So much of the designated milestones people deemed important involved him.
Becoming engaged to a Prince. Marriage. Having children. Being crowned Queen. Ruling a small European country together. She mused at her life’s peculiar milestones.
Their walk eventually leads to their special place, as it always did, to the center of the garden maze. The infamous swing hung from the large tree, the same one they raced to that very first night of his social season all those years ago.
Riley follows Liam to the bench he had installed a few years ago directly across from the swing.
The challenge brings a small chuckle from his lips as he brings her delicate fingers to his lips.
Riley briefly closes her eyes for a moment of respite as she feels his arm drape around her petite shoulders. The sense of belonging overwhelms her as she rests her head on his chest, sighing in disbelief.
“Everything okay?,” Liam gently nudges her head, looking down at his wife, waiting for an answer.
Riley reminisced of the life they lived.
Their circle of best friends who proved themselves loyal and true through the years. The three children they were able to bring into the world. Their oldest son, now King of Cordonia. The five grandchildren, and counting, they spoiled each day. The opportunity to serve the citizens of the country they love.
And if this wasn’t enough to make one’s life worthwhile, Riley was able to do all this and more while the love of her life stood right beside her with unwavering support and unfailing love.
She knew not many people could say that.
Riley looked up at him, concern etched on his now mature face, but the vibrancy of his icy-blue eyes remained the same through the years. Just like the night he walked into the restaurant.
Her eventual destiny was forever changed because of him and she wondered if Liam will ever know the profound effect he’s had on her life.
She simply smiled and leaned in to place a kiss on his lips.
“I’m more than okay, Liam.”
