A/N I know. I could have done a romantic story or two about a happy couple kissing each other goodbye on the way to work or something. But I feel angsty today 😂 Anyone who has read this series knows my OC had to watch Maxwell, the man she believed was the love of her life, marry someone else in the first chapter. Though the series continues happily for her with a new love, I thought I should go back to that first chapter and show how that wedding ended. It's a cold, rainy day here in my neck of the woods thanks to a tropical storm blowing through. The mood is set. I'm in my favorite worn out yoga pants and completely comfortable in my heated recliner. Time to get angsty 🤣

Amanda sat alone once more at the bridal party's table. She watched as all her friends and invited guests danced and celebrated Maxwell and Nadia united in matrimony. Laughter and conversations were a distant hum in the background of the music.

She'd always loved this part of a party. At balls and such, she would escape in the midst of it to watch from a distance. It was as if she was an outsider, looking in at a world she'd always been a part of yet at the same time wasn't. It gave her time to reflect back on the people she'd met and her own interactions with them.

Chapter 15 Last Minute Jitters and Plans

The morning after, or rather afternoon, of the bachelor/bachelorette parties was a quiet time for the most part. Many were still abed while a few were beginning to stir. One in particular had awakened before everyone else and had come up with a planned surprise.

He only needed to wait out the duchess who was a key component to his plan.

Maxwell paced the confines of the kitchen, pausing only long enough to check the time. He knew she had too much to drink the night before. He had evidence of just how drunk she became. He hoped such would be enough to get her to fall in with his latest scheme.

Chapter 8 Alone At Last

After all the uncertainty followed by being unable to find consistent moments alone, Amanda and Thomas were at last set free of worry.

Well, mostly.

They had to behave as friends when out amongst the small towns they stopped along their way to different historical sights. Though those moments forced them to keep their distance, neither tempered their soft spoken words.

Thomas had worried that first day how they would handle the hotel situations he believed they were bound to encounter. He had gotten used to Olivia's secret passageways allowing him to see Amanda whenever he wanted.

He should have known that the intelligent lady he adored had already solved that problem.

Every few minutes there was some type of pounding of footsteps running past or squeals. An occasional argument could be detected, yet mercifully Thomas couldn't make out the words.

The next few days in Lythikos seemed to drag by. Olivia, after a great deal of arguing, relented and offered to help Amanda and Thomas in not only keeping their relationship a secret, but in finding ways they could be together in private. The only hitch to the couple's plans was this suitor business.
