i love that transience as a concept is woven deeply into supernatural. the story is set around highways, bars, motels. places that you aren't meant to linger in. small towns that are just stops along the way. sam and dean exist at the periphery of the america they live in. when they do slow down, we aren't meant to consider it as permanent. dean in lisa's house is also temporary. he leaves so easily. sam in amelia's house, as well. they can pack up and go without taking much with them. both of them, a whole year, and they pack a bag with their clothes like they always have and that's enough. they have been raised to live with what they can carry and have never known much else. this transience allows them to do the job they do, slipping in and out of people's lives without much regard for the wake they leave behind.

the bunker is an anomaly and that's why I've never taken to it. it feels disingenuous to what supernatural set out to be, a snapshot of the wide expanse of america and the two men who passed through it. they were never meant to settle into anywhere. the whole point was how they felt the outsider even when welcomed in. how when they did find some sense of security and home, it was threatened or taken from them. it was never meant for them. they were never meant to fit. they were never meant to get closer than an arm's length distance to the world they were keeping safe.

the best thing about lucifer!sam is that they played towards all of jared's strengths as an actor. like there is one full body shot of lucifer, and it's not one that plays to jared's height, but he looms anyway. he makes dean look fucking tiny, like the shaking little rodent lucifer considers humans to be and most of lucifer's shots are just normal, even straight up out-of-focus frames of jared's face. i can't do this

no clue what they did with his makeup but he genuinely looks monochromatic with the eggshell and whites of his suit. it takes him right to the edge of uncanny valley then all of jared's mannerisms has him balancing on that edge. like the sheer egotistical innocence of him is downright goosebump inducing. you can tell that body isn't entirely his, but he has a right in using it and he's using it well; his eyes are working to look at you but those eyes aren't the only ones seeing you
