I mean no disrespect here, but I really feel like the back rooms is one of those pieces of online horror that’s been absolutely ruined by the addition of more lore.

Liminal spaces spaces really dig into an aspect of human psychology that I’ve always found really fascinating. When something innocuous just doesn’t feel quite right, but you’re not really sure how. Or when something feels nostalgic to you, but you don’t know when or where you’ve seen this place before. It really digs into real life psychological phenomena, like false memories or the uncanny valley. That’s the sort of horror that I enjoy - horror that doesn’t really feel like horror in the traditional way, but still feeds off of anxieties. That feeling of not quite right. That feeling of needing to look over your shoulder even though you’re completely alone. That feeling of being followed even though there’s nothing to harm. It’s the anticipation; the way your brain chemistry plays tricks on you. The way your baser instincts try to protect you.

And then they just added too much to the back rooms and made it just another generic creepy pasta and it’s just…really…
