A 22 yr old in my org got drunk tuesday night and kinda shit on the fact that I'm running a community cleanup for our chapter. Said something along the lines of "i didn't join up to pick trash." Which really bothers me and it took me a while to figure out why. The whole point of the community cleanup is that we're returning to the neighborhoods where we knocked doors for A4 to help clean up their streets and provide material improvement for free in an effort to build inroads with those neighbors.

Like... if your socialism doesn't include picking uo trash, I'm guessing it also doesn't include doing the dishes, babysitting, or anything else that is important but not prestigious. Idk man, fuck off with that shit. You'll pick up trash and you'll like it until you understand why picking up trash isn't anyone's job but your own. I hate that attitude. If helping and doing activism was always fun and visible and impressive, everyone you know would already be doing it.

because LIFE is uncomfortable. Death and suicide and sex and pain are straight up going to happen. not having words for the way it discomforts you doesn't make it more comfortable, it just makes you less able to reach out about it.

even more vital, you gotta be able to say words like "rape", "abuse", "queer" or "racist". cause we fought fucking hard to name those experiences. to identify "rape" as distinct from "sex" and "racism" as distinct from "acceptable behaviour" and "queer" as distinct from "invert"

like the function of communication is not to minimise immediate discomfort. we gotta be able to talk about stuff that's hard or sucks or causes difficult conversations.

This is what's so goddamn terrifying about the Internet slowly collapsing into the same 3-5 websites--if Facebook deprioritizes you for saying "sex" and TikTok shadowbans you for saying "suicide" and Twitter X locks your account for saying "racism" we've lost a lot more than just the culture of the old weird internet

Hey, they have a complaint form in case you want to tell them how you feel out this issue. They should issue a statement apologizing to the employee they fired :) Don't you think :) They should probably pay him compensation in the form of a fat check.

Making a false statement about someone is defamation. Posting a video of someone's own words and actions is the opposite of that. No way Five Guys was worried he had a case. Which makes me feel that they probably fired the employee because they support the actions of the racist Fascist in the video. Appalling.

It’s horrible that anyone is going through this, but for someone so young to have to help support his family through genocide—that just breaks my heart. So when Nader asked me to adopt his family’s campaign, I couldn’t say no.

Like with other palestinian GFM campaigns, this money is used by a large extended family to buy basic necessities. It may seem like the campaign has received a lot, and it has, but for a big family under siege, “a lot” of money doesn’t last very long.
