German doctors have determined a stress fracture is the cause of Komova’s chronic back pain. She should be able to return to gymnastics if her six-month treatment is successful. She will return to Munich on Oct 9 accompanied by Maria Paseka.
NEW VIKA INTERVIEWWWW!!! we need translation though…maybe you can help @papaliukin or @mustagym??
Pleaseeee:)also @dolly-z
She says: “I don’t finish my sport career, but don’t stay in the sport too.. It is a period in my life where I need to improve my health. If my back is going to be okay, I will continue to compete. If it isn’t, then, unfortunately, I will finish the sport career.”
She says that the injury happened after the Olympics in London. Six months later, her back began to hurt. Coaches say this happened because of her growing up (height, weight) Her back could not cope with hard trainings (before London.
Vika treated back even with the help of manual therapy, using traditional medicine, injections, hospitals, acupuncture. She hoped that the German doctors will help her.
Komova says Melnikova able to show the best results in RIO. Seda and Dasha are good athletes too.
Vika is very good to communicate with colleagues in the team. Paseka sent her a message from Penza, all of the girls said: “We are waiting for you here”, etc. She misses them.
Future (without sport). Firstly, Komov wants to finish university (one year left). ‘And in general, I don’t know. I wasn’t ready for this. Maybe I’ll train children, but I am afraid to be a bad coach, because my athletic career was not very good.’
‘I look at gymnasts and realize that someone is using athletic ability, while others use the grace and beauty. We always choose grace and beauty. And American gymnast, for example, choose a high difficulty. Hard to tell. Gymnastics will grow in terms of difficulty, that’s for sure.’
Q: What would you never repeat in your sports career? Vika: The vault in London. I would have paid attention to vault, forgetting the hurt. I confess that this mistake has cost me a medal.
‘Will you see me on the next competitions? Of course, I’ll be there, but as a fan. Sorry … I have done enough in the sport, now I need to improve my health. Will i go to Rio? If team will take me with them, I’m happy to go! I want to cheer for girls’
Well yeah I’m the worst person for translating
THANKS<333333333333
VIKA YOURE ATHLETIC CAREER WAS VERY GOOD STOP IT
The vault that haunts everyone :(
Viktoria Komova wants to stay in gymnastics, so she hopes her doctors in Germany will be able to treat her back. She’ll likely retire if the treatment isn’t successful. She’s had back problems for years, but over the past year the pain has become bad enough to hinder her from training for the European Championships and Olympics. She will be going to Germany in mid July. She’s not sure yet if she’ll be in Rio for moral support, but she hopes everything goes well for the men’s and women’s teams.
Valentina confirms Maria Kharenkova is out of contention for Rio due to an ankle injury. Apparently Kharenkova has had ankle pain for quite some time but only spoke up about it recently when she could no longer bear it. She will accompany Viktoria Komova to Germany for treatment.
#tossbacktuesday remember when we got stuff like this at russian cup
The queen!
Your beautiful gymnastics will be missed in Rio… wishing you a speedy recovery!
Vera Kolesnikova laments seeing her daughter having to quit right before the Olympics. But according to her, apparently Vika has had severe back problems for nearly 8 years. The stress of the London Olympics just added to it (plus her constant foot problems). Vika has been battling these issues off and on while trying to regain her old form in all her routines. Vika is currently undecided about her future, but first it’s important to fully restore her health before she can even try to return.
She looks much happier in her recent IG photos after she announced that she wasn’t trying for Rio. It must have been a very difficult decision. I wish people would stop asking her to come back or complaining about her decision in the comments on her IG comments. It’s so intrusive.
I can only imagine how much pressure she’s been under ever since she made her international return last year. I bet she finally feels relieved and free not having to please anyone now.
A lot of articles are starting to appear about Vika’s sudden decision to stop training. All of them have statements from Valentina Rodionenko, Evgeny Grebyonkin, and her father confirming she’s not training for the Olympics because of severe back pain. However, her father says Vika wants to return to gymnastics when she finally recovers. (x, x)
“Don’t quit because something went wrong. Quit because you tried your hardest and nothing made it better.” - Unknown
Viktoria Komova (my translation of her VK message)
when people criticize vika for inconsistency and constant injuries
“You just had to land that vault inside the mat and you would have won that gold. But you couldn‘t even try, Vika. You’re weak, your bloodline is weak, and you will not survive the winter“
you did not
