Happy Birthday to Pavs who turns 29 today! I decided to post one of her beam routines because I always liked her on beam most of all. Plus I’m sure everyone else would prefer to post her floor routine from the 2008 Olympic AA final. 

Oh Pavs, I sometimes forget that I miss her and then I see something like this and the pain is real. I generally don’t like full-twisting BHSs because they are so clunky (sorry Sanne and Dasha, and even you Cata), but Pavs’ is so fluid and pretty. 

It was already known a week or so ago, but now it is official: Pavlova retires.

i hope anna pavlova texts valentina about the vaults she is training and is like “i send my regards i heard u guys are low on vault and floor workers and are fielding retired athletes well have fun ive got some DTYs to go throw xoxoxo” 

its really weird to think about how pavs and sveta were on the same olympic team in athens. i always think of them as being from two distinct “eras” of post-soviet russian gymnastics but they were teammates at one point
