It was a sunny day (Robert´s POV)

I don't know if you're still doing these, but can I get ✈ from the drabble list?
Theres so many ways I could write that but I settled in giving my creepy whumper some attention before he became an awful whumper.
It should be illegal to cry this much when writing. Man I´m so mad at myself for Sirius.

Sirius was a carefree, attentive and charismatic older biologist. His dad’s friend son who he had known since they were teenagers and the one he had given his first kiss to.
He still remembered the way his dimple appeared when he asked for permission. “My strange little Robbie. Why would I say no to you?” His shorts in the hot summer house and the sensation of fireworks in his belly.
His little brother followed him everywhere. “Duckling” was his nickname until high school. When the brother went to another country and he had pat his back and stared into each other’s eyes for longer, but still too quick, before he ran to his plane.
Robert had never felt so alone, however, and doubted someone would be as dazzling as Sirius was. With snark and wits that didn’t belong to someone his age.
However, he met Zarai. A fair spark in the ocean of glitter he had tried to match with. It was infuriating to lose to her and so rewarding to win. Even if he was just one semester above, she proved herself as a competent player. An interesting rival. But admiration wasn’t the spark he wished for.
His spark came back one night. After four years, he found himself clinging to the spark of shaggy hair, mess of freckles and that cunning smile.
“Missed me Robbie?” He had said in the floor of the airport after Robert tackled him down. Brushing his fingers through his hair as the other smiled “Me too” he went into a hug that lasted until Claude jumped in. Stealing their air. But Sirius would always laugh it off “Duckling! Dressed like a proper doctor even without a degree!” He had said as he ruffled Claude’s hair.
Sirius was pure excitement to learn and understanding. The brains, the looks and the skill and wits that charmed a room full of people that melted only into his hands to forge a playful game of rendition whenever they were alone. Sirius would battle him sometimes. With the lightness of joking, or the heavy weight of a fired discussion. However, it didn’t pass long until both sat down and worked it out together. Robert had no eyes for anyone else.
After a while of going around the globe together, stuck like glue to the other, Robert took out the ring. The man’s freckled face flashed red as he laughed.
“17 years later I ask you again” Sirius said pulling out a little box out of his own pocket and kneeling, he showed the ring “Why would I say no to you?”
But when Robert was tasting the “I do” on his lips. After he had rehearsed it over and over, when he had make sure Sirius knew his answer every day, he never had a chance to say it.
Robert was on the passenger sit of the van. Next to Sirius. A sunny day with his mother and Duckling. His father getting the treatment to somehow try to fix decades of smoking.
Duckling’s best friend’s family were there too. Jarred Montenegro, the beloved nurse in the Langbroek’s hospital who had enamored Zarai in a bit less than six months and given them Fran and Charlie. Two balls of energy that Sirius loved taking everywhere and spoil like they were his own.
“Someday, we too” Sirius had promised him, sending a little shiver in the back of his neck. A family with him was all he could ever wish for.
But in the way to the kid’s favorite spot, in the middle of a deserted highway in which it should have been safe to accelerate a bit, even when the kids were out of their sits and Jarred had tried to make them sit, a flash of white appeared out of nowhere.
“SIRIUS!” Robert had pulled his arm up, a lame attempt to protect him.
“Sh-“Sirius couldn’t even finish before the wheel turned and stuck.
The van became a blender of screams and broken glass. For a few seconds, he thought he was dead.
Then it stopped. Upside down. But he was not dead.
He opened his eyes to screaming. A ringing on his ears that muffled Claude and Jarred. He passed his fingers over his seatbelt and crashed to the ground.
“S-Siri-ngg” he tried lifting up his broken arm. Cradling it on his arms as he reached for the driver’s seat. Where Sirius head fell limp and bloodied. “Sirius, Sirius?” His hand held his face which made glassy gray eyes fix on him.
“Rob…” it was just above a whisper. He moved and blinked so slowly. His arms hanged limp and Robert held his hands. They were so cold and swollen. “I’m in…It hurts” he cried “make it stop, please!”
Robert squeezed his hand “You’re ok, y-Ngh” he eased his breath “You, you are going to be ok. I promise” he said. Crawling to see the situation better. The wheel was crushing his chest, that’s why he was hanging. Maybe his legs weren’t stuck. So he only needed to move the seat back. “Ok this might hurt baby ok?” Sirius let out a cry “I know I know. Do it for me, baby. Bare it for me ok?” Robert cupped his face on his hands, trying to stop the shaking. “B-Breathe. Deep breaths for me” he didn’t manage to stop the tears from falling. Sirius nodded but when he tried, he screamed, and it hurt. So much he screamed and cried even more.
“Can’t. It’s crushing my ribs!” Sirius cried in shallow breaths. Sirius fixed his eyes on Robert “I’m going to die” Robert froze a second. To then desperately try to move the sit back. “NOOO!” Sirius howled making him jump back. “It’s- Its holding me together. It-Ah, hurts” Sirius searched the strength to lift off his head to see Robert’s tears “But if I pull back I’m gonna die” Sirius let his mouth hang for a while, until it formed a smile. “Baby? Robbie?” He lifted his arm towards the shivering, panting man.
Robert rushed to hold his hand “I’m gonna take you out”
“You will kill me Robbie” Sirius said with a half laugh. Feeling the blood accumulating in his head.
“I-I don’t- I won’t! It won’t! I, I, I’m gonna save you!” He ducked into the seat trying to move the lever that would free him. But he tried and tried, and it wouldn’t budge.
“Robbie…” Sirius called. He knew it wouldn’t be long until he bled out. “My leg…”
“Stuck” he smiled. “Rob, come here” Robert was looking back outside. Claude had dragged everyone out to safety. And he could hear him scream at Jarred to breathe. Doing CPR desperately. Charlie was covered in his jacket. And he could hear the ambulances coming.
“There’s help coming. You’re gonna be ok, baby. Please…” Robert said and it was when he noticed Sirius hand on his nape. Reaching, trembling every second he pulled him closer. Until they bumped foreheads. “Please don’t do this to me”
“I know Rob, I’m sorry. I will try” He lied. And he knew he was lying. But he held to his hand with hope nonetheless. He passed his hand through his bloody hair. “I love you. Ok? Never forget that. I love you more than I love anything. I love your shit grin when you win. I love it when you get all focused in a difficult puzzle. I love how hot you look making phone calls to grumpy CEO’s” he tried not to laugh. Feeling a piece of bone had perforated his lung. He managed to spit blood away from the other’s face “But I love you the most when you’re happy, Robert. Please be happy” Sirius couldn’t stop the tears falling down. “Don’t matter ok? Don’t matter what be happy”
Robert broke down “But you’re what makes me happy. Nothing else will. I was lost without you. Don’t talk like that” Sirius only stared at him “Help’s coming. Please, Sirius”
Sirius stared for a long time and began to cry “Will you stay with me until I go then?”
“You will go to a hospital bed, my love” he said it to himself more than him “Just- If it hurts so much, squeeze ok? As much as you want to” Sirius squeezed hard. He felt the pressure. And it was both, reassuring he had strength left, and was in immense pain. “It doesn’t hurt so much if that’s your squeeze” He said. Feeling the drip of blood flowing drown from Sirius ribs to his head.
“I don’t want to break your hand” Sirius laid out flat. His breathing was starting to be spaced out. Eyelids too heavy, fell shut. Ah it was so cold. The only warm thing was Robert’s hands. “Rob…” Sirius called. Hearing paramedics rush to Claude, screaming his brother was inside. But he focused on the light brown eyes of the man he would spend the rest of his life. Like he promised. Even if it was only a few more minutes. “Thank you, for loving me. You were the spark I always searched for” Sirius kept squeezing. Even when he had no strength to talk or see or move anymore, the last thing he did was let go Robert’s hand.
Robert kept his promise. Despite the only thing he wanted was to scream, he kept holding his hand until he heard him breathe for the last time.
Robert kept it even when the paramedics tried to get him out of the car. Screamed at them to bring him out first. And when they did, when they pulled him out and let him hold him as Claude ran to them and cried, when Sirius was put into a plastic bag, it didn’t dawn on him he was gone. As he clenched Sirius’s ring on his hand as the paramedics stitched his arm and put it on a stretcher.
When he went to visit Zarai who had fell in a comma and there was no one saying “Sleeping beauty, wake up! The kids and I brought you a gift to wish you well”
When he received the news Fran had died in the hospital after hours of pain and there wasn’t a freckled man crying into his shoulder.
When his father ran to him asking for Gabrielle, his mother, and he couldn’t let even a single word out before the man pulled him into a hug and screamed. When Sirius wasn’t there to join into it.
When he went back home, when he saw their bed, when he saw the piano he had played the night before, when he saw his notes, his research, his unfinished projects laying on the desk of the office with a butterfly wall, but there was no one with a lab coat and coffee with a smile on his face when he kissed the lunars on his neck as hello.
It was then, when it finally dawned on him Sirius was gone. Even when he tried to fool himself in the illusion that he was the identical face that stared at him with devotion. Hoping he wouldn’t take out his rage on him that day if he pleased him.
But he couldn´t fool himself. He knew it was a lie.
Gone to a place he couldn’t reach.
