Maki the goat tossing sukuna like it's nothing giving him one hell of a fight to the point he compares her to mahoraga, choso ALIVE and coming to help yuji like the bestest brother he is, yuta alive and taken to heal (which gives me hope for gojo's return) god is so so good! Now all we need is a gojo surprise return

Rare Shinjuku enjoyer, thank god someone likes this arc.

Absence of Gojo does make JJK story more interesting

I'm reading discussions about the Shibuya arc (I'm still learning about the fandom as it's fairly new to me).

So far it's getting praise from everyone (anime only/manga fans).

Fans are saying that the Shibuya arc is one of the best arcs in manga/anime history because the plot is amazing. Every character plays an important role and it'll leave people devastated (I'm not spoiling).

And guess who's absent in the Shibuya arc most of the time? Satoru Gojo.

I know people like to bash on Gege but he's right about Satoru. His presence makes the plot boring and anticlimactic and predictable. Even Gojo's voice actor said the character is boring to play cause there's no growth besides being the strongest.

Most people like to see their heroes facing struggle. And then overcoming obstacles. People like to see characters grow. Even one punch man was underdog at the beginning and became the strongest with hard work unlike gojo who was born with the gift.

And I agree with it. The last episode (11) has been so far the best in s2. It was more enjoyable and I was in my seat being excited about Megumi and Yuuji fighting with the inverse technique guy and figuring out his weakness.

I was intrigued about the granny and his nephew and what they were doing.

People were hollering when Toji came out (that's a given I guess). But still people (anime only) were speculating about how he came out again.

When the episode ended I was left wanting more.

I'm excited about other characters.

What's Nanami going to do? Or Maki, Nobara.

What is mei mei planning?

How Mahito is going to fight Yuuji?

And Megumi and Toji??!!!

Naobito? My baby Ino?

Like I said, I get it Gege. I don't hate you.

As a manga reader, Gojo getting sealed is arguably the single most important moment of the Shibuya Incident. You get so used to the insurance that is Gojo over the series that once he’s out of the picture, the stakes instantly rise.

Guys, I have fallen down the Jujutsu Kaisen brainrot. This is the third anime I've ever watched and it is so appealing. Help me-

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Imagine getting the Shibuya Incident on your first watch, prepare to be absolutely destroyed emotionally, you will love every goddamn second of it.

Oh, I did.

I also watched Jujutsu Kaisen: 0 first because a friend told me to. That friend got me into this shit. 🤣

Also, Are Satoru and Suguru gay? I swear they're like a divorced bickering couple sometimes...

It's not canon, but it is heavily implied. At the very least, their dynamic is not 100% platonic.

what do you mean you think jjk 236 was a bad ending for gojo what do you mean it cutting from everyone thinking he won to the jarring realization he is in the afterlife and then sukuna’s creepy monologue of how he defeated the supposed strongest with a horrific shot of gojo’s body isn’t the PERFECT way to make the reader feel the shock and horror the other sorcerers watching and even gojo must have felt. what do you mean you think it is character assassination when the whole point of gojo’s character was that he felt people only valued him for his strength, but in the end his strength didn’t matter and he could just die satisfied by a good fight and surrounded by people he loved instead of alone and with regrets like he thought he would. what do you mean you think gege doesn’t understand gojo’s character when their editors say they remind them of gojo, and they don’t hate him personally they just joke about how difficult it is to write a “strongest” character. what do you mean when you say gege wronged gojo when the point of the story is that yuji wants everyone to get a proper death, and gojo gets to go out in a blaze of glory worthy of the strongest, but most importantly surrounded by people he loves and welcomed into the afterlife by people who love him, satisfied with his life, if only geto could’ve been there. when the story is about breaking cycles and gojo is able to admit he couldn’t win, and despite sukuna holding something back and him feeling lonely and misunderstood at the top and geto not being there, he still felt loved and satisfied at his end, and that breaks the cycle of sorcerers dying with regrets and for nothing. what do you mean gege doesn’t understand gojo’s character, when the first thing he thinks of in the afterlife is megumi, fully confident megumi will survive and get sukuna out of his body. how could you not understand that it was always going to end this way, but this was the best it could’ve ended. what is a better ending for satoru gojo than being the strongest no longer defining who satoru gojo is, but being defined by the love he shared and received in return?

Unpopular opinion but you're exactly right. Idk how I feel about all the 237 bullshit coming out, but 235/236 is literally just a panel or two away from being actual perfection.

I WANT YOU TO UNDERSTAND ME

It's not surprising to me that Gojo's dying monologue he spent more time talking about his fight with Sukuna than any of his students. Gojo's priority from the beginning isn't to save Megumi but to fight all-out against a strong opponent, the line is: ""The Absolute Strong. The loneliness that follows. The one who will teach you about love is..."

This fight is basically the climax of Gojo's identity crisis which has been a long running issue for him throughout the manga. He's simultaneously a self-confident individualist with an overpowering sense of "ego" and a person with little idea of who he is outside of the role in society that was given to him. Gojo went into the fight looking for someone capable of understanding him, the fight is about Gojo seeking an answer to who he is, that's why he fights and that's why he loses.

Amazing analysis, completely changed how I viewed Gojo’s character. However, I do have a tiny nitpick around this paragraph:

Rather than just strong and weak being constructed categories. Gojo's the strongest at Jujutsu but if you took him outside of Jujutsu and asked him to work any other job he'd no longer be the strongest. He's only the strongest as long as he remains in his fish bowl that is Jujutsu Society.

Akutami has actually stated that Gojo is so innately talented that he could do whatever he wanted to at a professional level. He simply chooses not to, likely because of how much his identity is tied to sorcery and/or his inability to relate to others.
