After my last drawing of Kya, I got to wondering why their family stayed in the South pole in the first place. Katara’s waterbending posed a threat not only to them, but to the entire tribe. I chalked it up as kind of an act of defiance stemming from how much the water tribes valued community.
Listen, the water tribe family holds a realy special place in my heart. and i wanted to see happy Kaya and Hakoda! It is simply unfair that Kaya is just “the mother killed by the fire nation” Ursa got more lines than her!!! I want to know more of her. See how she took care of her kids. bundeling them in warm clothes. Telling them stories, playing games. I hope these are okay.

The second drawing shows Hakoda and Kya from the waist up, kissing with Kya’s hand on Hakoda’s face. Hakoda is carrying Sokka in one arm, and Katara is nestled in the pouch of Kya’s parka. Both children look away and stick out their tongues in disgust at their parents kissing.
The third drawing shows Kya from the torso up, hugging both of her children to her. She leans down and kisses Sokka, one hand on the back of his head, as Katara looks up with her mouth open, her hand on her brother’s shoulder. They wear blue Water Tribe clothes, with an embroidered brown blanket wrapped around all three of them, and Kya’s necklace is visible. End ID]
