Did we ever find out what happened to Shouyou's sword? I also love the idea of Gintoki beheading him with it but in the anime it looks different? I remember in the benizakura arc Gintoki threw the textbook away so I feel like I'm misremembering if he also threw the sword away
mutuals correct me if im wrong but i think the sword just disappeared w/o any explanation on sorachi's part? which is on brand. my explanations:
a) it's in Abandoned Symbols and Plot Elements Shelter. (= femme takasugi's earth defense base shop, a known liminal place)
b) it stayed in the joui war genre (stuck in backstory. permanent ghost sword) and toyako is the same sword just looks a little different in a shonen/chambara parody
c) oboro got drunk and swallowed it post cliff scene
d) the shoson survivors considered pawning it for rice but it would have been too dangerous so they buried it on school ground. zura delivered an eulogy
e) gintoki still had it on him before his imprisonment so it sat in an Ikeda clan warehouse for a time and now it's in asaemon's closet behind a pink shopping bag. which is the outcome that shoyo would have wanted imho
