Is this the NY trip that Anthont talked in his letter??? In the vid they talked about being in NY for the Ghostmates tour, so I think so.
There's also a part of where they are in a bar getting some drinks- just like the letter

I agree with you improv isn't their strong suit...but in the trivial pursuit video they also try not to laugh to get ahead, that's the point of the game and they are competetive, especially Ian likes to win at that (it's kinda cruel and not in a friendly spirit of the game especially in the tntl with the rest of the cast, if you ask me), and I have to say at least in that video even if especially Anthony didn't have many funny comebacks I think the atomosphere between them was very light and joyful.
this is a fantastic point anon! ian is clearly more competitive so if he doesn't think it's funny he will not laugh. I agree that, besides the awkwardness for us, I think it was just two guys having fun. it's what i've thought ever since anthony returned, and that is that the air between them is so much lighter than it used to be because they're genuinely friends again. they don't have that pressure on their shoulders anymore - so even though they didn't make each other laugh a lot, it was just a cute video of the two of them being friends

that is such a great point! because even though ian's unscripted stuff is hit or miss, like a previous anon pointed out, sometimes it really does hit. sometimes it really is funny! he's had a whole lot of practice over the past few years and it shows even if his improv isn't funny all the time. and anthony didn't have all that practice because he's been doing his own thing. I like to think that, now that he's going to be on smosh pit regularly, we'll see some improvement from him too :)

yes, 100%! improv is hard and it's obvious they both feel more comfortable doing scripted stuff because that was what they did for years. sketches are where they shine because they refine it and they bounce ideas off of each other (aka the sun and magnifying glass metaphor) so when they're trying to do something off the bat it's (usually) not as good
and y'know what? it is what it is. they're more than likely very aware they're not so good at that sort of thing, and that's okay. I assume we're not gonna get another trivial pursuit video from them lmao

it's not bad vibes per se - it was just a little awkward to watch because they both didn't laugh very much at each other's jokes. lots of silence where they were just staring at each other and maybe cracking a smile. anthony laughed a little at ian, but ian didn't really laugh at anthony at all.
i think that that style of video/comedy just isn't either of their strong suits and that's okay. clearly they each think the other is funny, otherwise they wouldn't be doing sketches again, so there's nothing to worry about there. the video was just sort of awkward

Okay I'm rewatching the 'I spent a day with...' interview and something I didn't talk about at any point but I want to is the get well soon card story because OMG 15-year-old Anthony loved Ian SO MUCH! He was like 'this single act of kindness is going to fuel the greatest passion project that will become the foundation of their entire lives' like dude. Ian doesn't even remember that either which frankly makes the story better because to him that was probably some little thing he thought was just something you do for your friend who's been sick for months and you actually do just miss them. They were young and frankly nothing is worse than going to school and finding out your friend isn't there that day but he had to endure that for half a year! Like 15-year-old Ian had to go through half a year of high school without his best friend like damn straight he's gonna write him a card LOL
I loved that story so much and the way Anthony was tearing up retelling it all while Ian just ends it by making a joke is just very them.
I think the part that made me cry the most was when he was talking about how he still saw young Ian in him when they were talking at that lunch they went to with that friend. He loves and missed him so much and you could tell it just warmed his heart knowing he didn’t change.
watching all the videos on smosh pit/games with anthony in it really is so crazy. he is laughing loudly, often, and without restraint. he’s always been easy to make laugh, but it feels different now. it feels easier for him. the weight’s been lifted and he’s so happy - he’s just a guy hanging out with his best friend, and he hasn’t really felt that feeling in over ten years
