Sometimes I open Ao3 as one would a fridge in the middle of the night. Hungry, but not willing to commit to anything that is in there and hopping a miracle will make something new and appetising appear out of thin air if only I close it and open again.

Tragically the solution in both cases is to make the thing you want yourself. Equally tragically, that takes time and effort and stuff and therefore solves absolutely fuck-all on the night in question.

Literally nothing could be more fun for me than reading my own writing from months ago and forgetting i was the one who wrote it. Im glued to the screen and i cant wait to find out what happens next. Bitch YOU made it up!!!!

Good Experience: My creative writing professor, one of the kindest, most open-minded arts teachers in any media that I have ever had, gave us an entire thirty minutes to just bring up stupid writing advice and complain about it.

Bad Experience: One of my classmates brought up how people always tell her to delete the word "very," and then she asked us how we felt about "very," and I completely forgot that I was a real boy in the real world and not on Tumbler dot Com, so I answered, "I love her. She's my girlfriend." And my professor was like "Did you just say the word 'very' is your girlfriend?????" and I had to just nod silently and reckon with the permanent damage this website has done to my brain.

irt my last post this is why i can't stand behind all the "dick is better than bruce because he actually cares about life beyond vigilantism" takes that contemporary canon and many fans are so fond of... come on, character psychology used to make sense... dick has the potential to get much worse. it's the most logical development even.

there's bruce wayne who spent years figuring out the great project of vigilantism and put much thought into the importance of his civilian id. and then there's a child who got introduced into it in the most traumatic moment in his life and routinely claims: "that's a waste of a day for dick grayson. anyways let me change into my robin costume real quick:)!" (<- a rough reiteration of one of his actual lines from pre-crisis comics)

anyways if i were to try and modernize drake parenting (which i guess i already have with my one fic lmao), the one thing i would not do is keep the "out of contact for months on end" part because to me, that part was definitely meant to be a limitation of the time era (i will forever be yammering about robin ii: joker's wild and when bruce went to russia during tim's training period because even bruce, richest man in the world and who happens to be batman, was unable to be contacted while overseas in that same time period) and despite those time era limitations they clearly did attempt to somewhat keep in touch with their son and keep him in the loop of where they were!

when i started my last director job at a university, they told me one of my duties would be to write all the chancellor’s letters. me: “cool. but why though?” them: “English isn’t the chancellor’s first language.” me: “I’m aware of that.” them: “the chancellor likes the suggestions that autocorrect gives him if he misspells something.” me: “Ah.” them: hands me a copy of a letter the chancellor sent to a donor who had just given a million-dollar gift to the university, which includes the following: ‘The profundity of your gift fills us with the greatest horror. In recognition we have prepared a special plague to compromise you and your family’. 

Which is why to this day when I’m struggling to communicate in a different language, i remember the chancellor, who was Doing His Best, and i try to give myself a break.
