FxivWrite2024 Participation Prize Art for Nadir @sea-wolf-coast-to-coast
I'm a volunteer artist with ffxivwrite —this is a makeup prize for Roku, who won the raffle during a previous year!
At the end of February, I lost my job to company restructuring. Unfortunately, my various health issues make it hard to find a job. I'm opening commissions to help keep everything afloat.
If you're interested, you can find more information here: https://alphie.crd.co/
I've also made posts to social media, if you'd like to help by retweeting/etc.

A call for feedback: Events selling 'services' on the RP Event Calendar
We've been getting a lot of push back over the years about events that exist to charge gil (or offer services for discord boosting) for host services, etc. There is currently a hard ban for legal reasons on charging for ERP services as well, and we're getting more and more reports of 'services' being 'ERP services'. We've been asking about a number of RP communities and based on feedback we've been getting are considering removing events selling role-play. ex: (500k gil for a 30 min private RP session) and letting the calendar focus on things that are role-play for the sake of role-play.
However, I don't want to make this change in isolation as this will be the first actual change in policy for the event calendar in the last 3-4 years. Any feedback would be welcome. Either reply or email us at [email protected].
im gonna say it.
you cannot separate monsterfucking from queerness.
& for the love of fuck i don't need babygays coming at me with "you're equating being gay with being a monster!" go back to tiktok, this is for the adults.
monsterfucking is so queer bc so many of us feel unlovable, so many of us can't relate to real world affections & attractions. (aces & aros in particular)
so yeah, i wanna fuck that monster, bc deep down, i hope someone will love the monster i think i am.
also monsters are Very Hot & that needs no explanation so.
Monstrousness is also not necessarily indicative of internalized whatever, it can just be a desire to be powerful and able to make people too afraid of you to mess around with you. It's aspirational. Queer people are ANGRY and some of us want to RAGE. And we need people who want to fuck us.
also I promise this is unrelated to anything else I've been posting about but like. We're not doing the "rainbow capitalism" complaint this year. Sorry. I know pitching this particular hissy fit is really important to some of you. But years when the conservative movement du jour is to have a literally identical tantrum about any company that's putting rainbows on drink cans or reusable grocery bags because they view that as "supporting groomers and pedophiles," we don't get to throw fuel on that fire. Even if you disagree with the fire on an ideological level, it doesn't matter to the fire! This year, feel however you want to feel about any given company making their logo into a rainbow flag, but I promise the "boycott Anheuser Busch because they're supporting Deviants by making our beer gay" people do not give a shit whether you're supporting their cause from a gay standpoint or a homophobic one, they just care about the net result, which is that by getting outwardly mad about this, you are lending them support
Rainbow capitalism is what happens when the soulless money-hungry engines that dominate the world economy conclude that the Queer Side of The Force is winning. That the money lost by alienating hateful shitweasels is less than what they expect to gain from reaching out, in their infinite hunger and cynicism, to queer people.
Like, it’s crass as hell, but it’s still a good sign and we should encourage it, as it may help to drive the people who hate us for being alive back in to their holes.

Please return us to a world where Notp and squick are used for a ship you don’t like instead of just making up a load of bullshit about how immoral it is or w/e lol
a short selection of concepts and phrases that used to be commonplace in fandom and we’d really benefit from making that a thing again:
NOTP: the opposite of an OTP (One True Pairing). It is a ship a fan strongly dislikes. The word is a portmanteau of ‘no’ and ‘OTP’ and thus is not a contraction of any particular phrase.
Squick: anything that is a deep-seated, visceral turn-off. Squicks may be shared by many fans or be specific to one; one person’s kink may be another person’s squick.
YKINMKATO, or kink-tomato: Your Kink Is Not My Kink, And That’s Okay: used to indicate support for fannish diversity and to distinguish between disapproval or kink shaming and simply having different taste.
DLDR: Don’t Like, Don’t Read: a phrase used to warn against complaints about an aspect of fic or meta. A “live and let live” philosophy of fandom, which places the responsability for avoiding content one doesn’t want to see on the side of the fanwork consumer, rather that on the creator’s.
SALS: Ship And Let Ship: similar to the above specifically about shipping tastes.
YMMV: Your Mileage May Vary: a phrase used to acknowledge that any given individual’s personal opinion on the topic at hand may differ due to their own tastes, standards, values, experiences, etc.
As the OP points out, all of these crucially imply no moral judgment of what they’re designing.
(definitions lifted more or less wholesale from fanlore’s relevant pages)
bring the healthy fun back to fandom!
If ever a time comes when I don’t reblog this when it appears on my dash, assume I’m dead
^ this is the way…. But y’all don’t wanna hear it
Math has always been troublesome for me. It's a miracle I made it to calculus. I still use the method they taught in 1st grade in the early 90s. 48+7? I'd just use 7's touch points and count up.
48, then tap the 7 on its touch points: 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55.
Ok it’s a poll it’s not that serious but there is something funny about the non-writers voting the most and not reblogging the poll to get more results. Like that’s the most accurate representation of fic interaction on this website 💀
i feel so seen!!
Holy shit, this!
I would say I am a cis guy, yes, but I really don’t care. I could see myself being a girl aswell (heck I prefer to play feminine characters in video games that allow me to chose), but not in a way would I consider myself trans. Like, I would be fine with any. Obviously I don’t have the experience of being trans, but there is no dysphoria for me. There are things I don’t like about myself, but I feel like that would be the case in any way.
Gender is such a weird concept to me.
I laughed way too hard at this
in case anyone is looking through the notes trying to find the original artist it’s will mcphail !! feel free to check out his site but also here are some other things he made too !!
OOOHHH CLICK ON THAT LINK THIS GUY IS FUCKING GREAT
HOLY SHIT
this guy GETS IT
Do you think you'll ever get tired of your signature "wait and see" and switch to something else?
As soon as people stop asking questions that will be answered in the upcoming second season of Good Omens, I'll stop saying it.
It's kind of like replying to kids in a car who want to know if we are there yet. Until you get there the only answer is Not Yet, no matter how tired they get of that answer.
Don't be ridiculous. "Not yet" isn't the only answer. It's not even the most common answer. That would be "if you ask that one more time I am going to turn this car around!" in my experience
Also, shout out to the time my grandfather responded with "if you ask that again I'm going to make you walk home", then actually stopped the car, made the kid get out, and drove around the block to spook 'em before letting them back in the car.
Mm. My dad did that to me once. I hid in the bushes by the road. Waited there for quite a while as they drove past, time and again. By the time they picked me up they were very relieved to see me, and didn't ever try that again.
Neil Gaiman wrote that incident, more or less as is, into one of his early graphic novels — Violent Cases, I think, or maybe Mr Punch. I’ve often wondered how autobiographical those were.
Fairly autobiographical. But still fictional. The analogy I tend to use is that it's as if it's a mosaic, and every red square is true. But the red squares aren't the picture.
Neitokainen is a body of water in Finland, which is shaped like Finland
I see it a lot in my students that the ONLY mode they can engage with literature on is one in which they either say it's good because it's "relatable" or it's bad because they "can't relate to it" as well, and I feel like this is a symptom of the same problem. An unwillingness to engage with fiction outside of its ability to be a mirror to your specific worldview and set of morals. But art doesn't exist to give you moral purity badges--it's a mode of expression that produces conversations between artists and readers. And to engage in those converesations on an adult level you need to learn to process the discomfort of flawed human realities productively.
