I hate when an artist gets exposed for being a bad person and people start the narrative “why would you even want to listen to their shitty music” when are we going to be freed from the idea that only good people create good art and bad people create bad art. It just makes it harder for these types of people to be exposed because now you got people thinking “how is this possible, his music is so good!”
more controversial (for tumblr at least) addition to this - the argument that “people should have known based on the subject matter of the songs” is also extremely unhelpful. Songs can be fictional and cathartic depictions of bad emotions or thoughts and I don’t think they should be used as evidence that someone is bad. If that subject matter makes you uncomfortable especially given hindsight that’s one thing, but I don’t think that should be confused with “evidence” or a sign “people should have known”. I think this line of thinking just ensures artists are going to make much more boring music
nice to see Miyazaki has the same writing process as me
Another part of Risen that I found interesting is that the main character, as a Roman, is obviously polytheistic. He's a devotee of Mars, but doesn't have any problems believing in the Jewish God. At one point, while trying to track down the disciples and find out who "stole" Jesus's body, he actually pauses to pray to the Jewish God in a very Roman way. He asks that God helps him instead of these scattered followers and promises that in exchange he'll have temples built and games held in His honor. It was a great look at where early gentile converts were coming from when christianity was new.
🩸EASTER BUT MAKE IT SCARY🩸
A scene from the movie Risen (2016) in which the Roman Tribune who gave the command for Jesus to be pierced in the side is then tasked with tracking down his disciples to find out which of them "stole" the body of their leader. In this scene, the living Jesus is revealed, but from the protagonist's perspective, this is terrifying. An absolutely genius take, if you ask me.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! As a Gentile and a Catholic, this hits hard. HAPPY EASTER!!!
