Designated Lesbian Syndrome (n.): When fans of a piece of media pick two female characters and pair them together as the token F/F ship and put them in everything, but do not bother to engage with their dynamic in any way more substantive than having them hold hands in the background. Everyone agrees it’s a good ship and it has nothing but their full support, yet this never materializes into real effort or content creation.

Most common with works that have little-to-no narratively important women, but in rare cases can even happen to major and complex characters who are then reduced to token background lesbians as everyone hones in on the boys.

asoiaf fandom: there’s two books left so there is still plenty of time for Jaime to be redeemed and for Sansa to become a ruling authority by the end and for Braime to happen!

jonerys shippers: h—

asoiaf fandom: you freaks, how is there enough time for Jon and Dany to get together? there’s only two books left and they’ll be too busy!

Asoiaf theories will just be like: what if [character with 5 total mentions] was actually [character with 2 total mentions, that died 20 years ago]

There is a twitter bot account that is basically just combines random names and tittles and places and such from ASoIaF with stuff like “Hot New Theory: X is actually Y!” or “Q will murder Z and rule the Reach!” and stuff like that and its pretty much how the fandom actually works a lot of the time

Well at least stansas are admitting they read fanfictions and NOT grrm’s work

Stansas: lol why would anyone think the blue flower prophecy applies to Jon and Dany? 😂😂

Also Stansas: replace Arya’s name in Jon’s ADWD arc with Sansa, make up lies about quotes

not to stir shit up, but to remember certain people in this fandom parallel Elia Martell who was looked down on for "being sickly" with a prejudiced girl who is actively poisoning a child because "being sickly" is making him a nuisance ooooffff

The quickest way for Sansa to be crowned is for her to show up in the Riverlands where either Brienne or Jaime will bring her to the Brotherhood without Banners. Then Lady Stoneheart can crown her with Robb's crown. Except the Brotherhood without Banners is looking for Arya, they know Arya, Brienne's leads all go people Arya has interacted with or places she has gone and Sansa knows no one in the Riverlands while Arya has never really left because Nymeria is there. Also Robb disinherited Sansa.

Plus, Arya is the one who witnessed the Red Wedding, and who is tormented by her mother's death. It's very clear that Arya, upon returning to the Riverlands, is going to give her mother Mercy, where the potential of her crowning can also occur.

question: why does grrm making one of the few ACTUAL parallels in the entire series, namely arya and lyanna, make some people so mad? they are literally shaking with anger whenever someone points out quotes or moments in which arya is said to be similar to lyanna which is again what grrm himself actively pushes and considers important enough to remind us over and over again throughout the whole series. thoughts?

because for Lyanna it proves she’s more important than their non-existent dornish poc princess, and for Arya it indicates femininity and importance and a romantic storyline and we can’t have that now can we 🙄 it’s hypocritical too. they want those parallels for themselves, they do it with sansa and lyanna (parallels that don’t exist) all the time they just can’t stand it’s a character they don’t like, especially as it indicates she’s more important than their fave (even tho arya is one of the key five so you’d think that importance was already undeniable but alas)

exactly! they're jealous af that arya is a more important character and has different plots, not only both magic and political importance w leadership foreshadowing, but also a romantic one. while they're stealing aspects of her arcs for themselves, they need to "prove" why she can't have those. that's where forcing arya into "tomboy" tiny box comes from. "arya is a tomboy", "she doesn't have to be feminine", "she doesn't have to be pretty", "why are you sexualizing her", "calling her pretty gives p*do vibes", etc, etc.

one of their bullshit made up narratives was that arya's plot from og outline was cut in two and the romantic aspect of it grrm gave to sansa, thus jonsa instead of jonrya. they tried to make the same about lyanna: actually both sisters are paralleled w her, and arya has horse riding/sword playing i guess, while sansa got the songs and romantic part. (i lost like. years of life just typing this nonsense 💀)

but oops, arya stans debunked this shit absolutely and since then they started to use misogynistic arguments against lyanna as well. "if we can't have this, no one can" it seems 🤷🏽‍♀️ "parallels w lyanna aren't a good thing actually", "northerners would hate lyanna for starting a war", "manwannabe", 1536372 wild bullshit claims from the cultists, "rhaegar and lyanna ain't a love story" - and this one has different roots tbh. it's both anti targ sentiments all over again AND an implication that girls like arya and lyanna can't have princes falling in love w them, especially not over "lady-like embodiments of femininity". they can't accept the fact that grrm gives romantic plotlines to girls who don't conform into society's restrictions for women intentionally. because deep down they ARE misogynistic and want their obedient good girly girls have all the goodies while "bad disobedient" ones have nothing and are even punished for not fitting in.

parallels w lyanna just show once again what a beautifully written, complex and multidimensional female character arya in fact is. it's smth they don't want ppl to acknowledge bc they both feel threatened on behalf of their own self insert fave and bc, like i've just said, they're misogynists who can't accept the fact that women not bowing down to patriarchal society's demands are worthy of the same things that the rest of women are, that they are allowed to have this and that they DO have all of this.

while all of these points are valid, it is also important to differentiate and acknowledge both perpetrators of these takes; jonsas and so called fandom neutrals. jonsas despise the arya/lyanna parallels because despite hating the r/l ship, they secretly covet those sorts of tropes for sansa, ignoring that sansa is a deconstruction of the kind princess trope. whether sansa is kind or not (and she is, just not as much as her fans, which encompass both neutrals and jonsas duh, claim she is, and especially not more than dany or arya or jon. the text is right there), the case remains that the weak parallels jonsas (and neutrals!) make between sansa and lyanna such as "defending the weak" and "trapped in a tower" are both based on either headcanons or straight up textual misinterpretation to fit a certain agenda. the more needling takes often come from these 'neutrals' who pretend that they have enlightened knowledge of the text that arya stans cannot possibly have because they "self-insert" or because they "want arya to have sansa's beauty" or because "arya and sansa are actually equally well plotted and written characters who represent two sides of the same coin and thus must not be 'pitted against each other'". using high literary language in shitposts (which are passed around as deeply insightful metas) doesn't distract from the fact that these 'metas' of theirs have zero substance and no actual commentary on characters. they use their posts to reference the fandom at large, targeting different subfandoms (while funnily enough ignoring the larger insiduous jonsa and martell subfandoms who have worked tirelessly to pollute this fandom with their metas, which surpass bnfs' cherry-picking. i guess these neutrals feel intimidated by jonsas. they don't have the guts to stand up to or confront jonsas and their regular word vomit in the tags.)

tl;dr. there is no point in these posts that are made on the regular. 'neutrals' and jonsas are bored and want to start fights in the fandom, while shrugging off all responsibility when things get dirtier.

Jon according to certain people in fandom: "I give this lethal weapon solely as a decoration, you cannot under any circumstances use it as intended. If you do I will shun you forever despite pining so passionately in such a way that people steal quotes and twist situations about us. Also I am a hypocrite who has a sword on me all the time and kill people but you can never do that because of gender reasons."

Few things here that are making me go 🤔 I won’t touch the Dany part of this edit bc clearly this is a typical Dany anti who thinks she’s an evil white imperialist. So that’s their interpretation, I guess.

But I’m confused. Bc this is supposed to be an asoiaf edit I’m supposing. In asoiaf, which northern lords does Sansa know that see her as a viable option for princess of the north, let alone queen in the north?

Then I’m further confused because even if someone thinks Sansa is a precious angel set up to be the most angelic leader of the north, where is her connection to the free folk in the text? If there was some kind of textual foreshadowing whereby we’d gradually get to Sansa learning who the free folk are then I’d see why this person made this edit but there’s no direct or indirect evidence that Sansa bonding with the free folk is a potential part of her arc or future.

I don’t know what “the Jon stuff” is. I’m assuming Jonsa which, okay, sure. Aside from that, though, in the books, why would we see a journey where by the time Sansa does make it back north, winterfell is still in Bolton hands and Jon, reanimated, is still hanging around at the wall? The man who broke his night’s watch vows to go save arya and kill Ramsay would hang around in the place he just got killed in knowing that he thinks his sister is still in danger? And he’d still be there by the time it takes Sansa to wrap up in the vale and get to the north?

Anyone wanna tell me if I’m going crazy lol?

The edit itself confuses me.

By the time they get to Sansa it is basically just complete AU (I won’t humor them by calling it speculation) fanfic, so I won’t touch that because they are clearly just doing non text based wishful thinking there.

However, Margaery was queen to THREE Baratheon (well, “Baratheon” in the latter two) Kings (Renly, Joffrey, and Tommen).

Similar with Cersei. She gained her first Queenly status as Robert Baratheon’s Queen Consort. She first became Queen Regent under the reigns of Joffrey and Tommen, but I find it misleading to state she was a “Queen by Motherhood”.

Lastly, if anyone of the above is a Queen by “elect” then it is Dany. Dany has gained her current Regnant Queenship by winning over her people, specifically her common followers and the freedmen who chose to follow her. (And she may be considered a Conqueror, but given the power structures of the City she conquered were established on a strict Chattel slavery system, and sole reason said Cities were conquered was because of said chattel slavery system, I am frankly in favor of her Conquest.)

And, If any of the above Queens are aware of how much their Queenship is reliant on their people, it is Dany:

“A Queen belongs not to herself, but to her people.”
