Seeing people who were openly queer in the 80s and 90s and were either ignored or ridiculed at the time getting to openly embrace their sexuality in the present day, and wrap themselves triumphantly in their flags does something else to me, I have such a soft spot for it that I could cry
It makes me well up because these are their words and their flags too, goddamn it!! Like I love that when someone that big is embracing a flag, it is a great show of solidarity and is marking themselves and their shows as safe spaces for queer expression… but this is also who they are! Those embraces of joy are as much for them as for us! These flags, these words, belong to them too! And I’m so happy to see them being able to wield them with the sort of pride that was once a lot harder to have taken seriously.
