What I find really sinister is the way you're expected to end your social life by age 22. You're supposed to join the workforce. You're told that as a younger and newer worker, you need to show more dedication and be ready to be on call anytime, work those later hours, work those earlier hours, explain every time that you're unavailable, anything short of a medical emergency is not a good reason (yesterday's thumb slice happened live and unmuted on an 8 pm work call) and it' like. Man. When do I live. If all I'm ever doing is work stuff, being home and then doing 'homework' for the next day at work, when should I do anything else. It is absolutely absurd to expect that someone in their early 20s won't ever be doing just fun stuff. Stupid stuff. The bargain is always 'you give us time outside of your work hours' but never 'you can take out some time inside of work hours in exchange'. Yeah sure, you're 'salaried'. At what cost. Cosplaying as a 50 year-old whose entire life has been built up to be the most useful worker drone to a company. So much of it is about optics. I'm on this fucking call. I'm on Tumblr. I'm not needed here. I should be live on radio right now.
#aaaaaargh#and I can't just take a teams call on my phone and leave. Hell.#work#work life#capitalism#I really don't like the idea of having to pretend that I don't and shouldn't have a life outside of work#my boss was apologising profusely for taking her kids out yesterday. Ma'am don't. Do not!!?#why do we do this to ourselves#anti capitalism#leisure who?
