you know what, when they said there was a tsunami that caused seismic shocks for 9 days all across the world, I was kinda expecting this to be one of those news stories of how scientists studied geological formations and determined exactly how something major that had happened millions to thousands of years ago had caused some sort of distinctive geography. I was not expecting it to be a news report of an event that happened in September 2023.

Hi Danish fans,

I want to lend my sympathy about the penalty decision. I really feel for you, and I think I have something that'll make you feel better. Go watch the 2019 cricket world cup final, where England

1) tied with New Zealand during the regular game

2) tied the super over with New Zealand AS WELL (sort of like extra time, but for cricket; each team gets 1 over to score runs and the other team has to chase it down)

3) England were technically a run short in the super over because the batsman, Ben Stokes, hadn't actually crossed the crease line needed to complete a run but this decision wasn't checked until after the match was over (sounds familiar?)

Still, the scores are tied again, now what?!

4) ???

5) Profit England win on technicalities (more boundaries scored during the regular game EVEN THOUGH THE SCORES WERE THE EXACT SAME. Sort of like saying "we award a win to England because they shot a goal from a further distance". If they'd counted the number of wickets taken instead, New Zealand would've lifted that trophy...)

Basically, not the first time England have survived a crucial knockout game on a controversial decision and sheer luck (don't deny it English fans, things like this can easily go either way!)

Hope you feel better,

Sincerely,

A New Zealand fan still reeling from ^ that happened in 2019

The likes on this post are an entire blocklist for bots, what the fuck. How are there so many of them?

One of my favourite things about Iceage is that if you didn't know anything about them and decided to just listen to a song or two to see what they're about, you'd go to Spotify or whatever and click their most popular song, and within 30 seconds you're off the deep end listening to this Dane whispering in your ear and very slowly enunciating to you that he's gonna keep pissing against the moon and he does not repent

...oh.

I realise I've just accidentally sold Iceage to some of you.

Actually, thinking about it now, a more accurate analogy would be "we award England the win because they shot a goal from a closer distance", because you're just hammering it through the ropes with boundaries. None of the 'carefully timed the ball to go to deep cover while we ran three runs' or 'oh! stole a cheeky single there, he's so quick on his feet'; straight up just 'yeah, he's got big muscles, just give them the win' which I hate

So I'd been away for a while for reasons that are looong to get into, so for short let's just say: travel restrictions. Anyway, I'm back and had a show this week, which is up now!

(It's not called World Hopping for nothing you know, as terrible a title as that is. Listen, naming a new episode every week is hard. It's at least a descriptive step up from just putting the show date down, but this podcast is so haphazard... I'll get it together someday!)

I'm quite pleased with this week's setlist, there's a lot of acts I've never played on the show before, some returning artists, here's who we had, with links where you can find them:

Hampshire dreampop band Drug Store Romeos, Superb synth punks Snapped Ankles, Kosovo-Albanian new wave pioneers Gjurmët, A submission from Berlin dark wave trailblazers Pink Turns Blue (!!), Irish debutants Inhaler, who recently topped the UK charts, Belfast, NI band Enola Gay, with a furious new industrial punk song, Scottish riot grrls Brat Coven, Dry Cleaning, with a fantastic new single, Denise Chaila, avant garde Irish M.C., and ditto ^, London musician Laura Mvula with a new album, Danish indie rockers Iceage, Edmonton rock and rollers Sister Suzie.

I've also thrown in a little travelogue just cuz I imagine the podcast gets a bit boring to listen to, with all the music cut out!
