It's Friday again, which means unbelievably, I get to do yet another song wizard new music Friday. For a 5th week! Somehow you're all still here. I'm not out of music, so let's do this!

For the uninitiated, Song-To-Go is a weekly song poll to take a lesser-known song along with you as you scroll!

As with last week, choose songs based on the 30-second Spotify snippets if you don’t know them (I’ve tried to make sure there’s something you won’t know), and if you like them they’re yours* to carry along on your trip!

*as in add them to your library etc., if you like them a lot come ask me and I’ll try and dig up a Bandcamp like for you, hee hee

This week's picks are all about rock and weird but really catchy indie (and the one ska punk track). What other genres do you want to hear in the next few weeks?

I think I'll also keep a running playlist of everything I've posted so far, plus others I'm planning to use for upcoming weeks because honestly, I don't really feel like there's a magician's cloth I'm pulling back to reveal songs. A lot of this is actually just stuff I've played on introducing radio over the last 4 years :P

Picked out an album from my radio station’s library for you all today. I felt it was appropriate for this weekend to pick out some Cranberries. No Need To Argue, the 1994 second album, sent to our station by Island Records.

Songs like Yeats’ Grave, Ode To My Family, Zombie. We’ve got a pretty large music library, so there’s lots more!

To be fair, I don't think grunge could've worked in any other accent. It needed to be that drawled and American and cool and unintelligible, I don't think it could have been uptight and clipped. I think it would've lost some of the profundity, mystery and coolness if anyone actually knew what they were singing about, because let's be honest, half the time it was just heroin. So when you wanted to attach nobler or loftier intentions to the songs, you just had to make it up as you went. Up the yarling, I suppose.

The demo for Mario Man mean a lot to me

Just the way it's this rough and ready track with everything but the vocal filters and all their voices sound so sweet and Cian's woop-woop keys are already down and giving the spacey and how the song's got all the markings of a signature Furries song!

I wonder what stage of the writing the song was in at the time, because the next track, a demo of Death By Melody, also recorded at these same sessions at Stiwdio Ofn (Fear Studio lmao) has much more steady and sure-sounding vocals on it. But it also features a moment during recording when someone or something must've amused Gruff so you can hear him laughing in the middle of a lead vocal take -- and I love that they kept that recording. Hearing that has absolutely made my day. You can hear it at around 45 seconds into the song!
