Meet Sara, one of the awesome people I met when I moved to Kilkenny 3 years ago. And boy am I grateful she’s in my life. This is what she looks like through my eyes. A young bright lady, showered in sunshine somewhere cool, skating into the horizon with her favourite coloured skates, having the most fun. She has the best taste in comic books, always finding the odd, super cool and funny ones. She’s supportive, funny and hungry to live a full life. When I found out she’s Spanish it took me a while to see her as one. There’s something in the way she sounds and the way she looks and the way she holds herself that says “worldly”, or a person who belongs to many places and not bound by one. When I’m around her I feel free...
Dear Sara, thank you for being such a great friend. Always ready for adventure, encouraging me to go ahead and try anything I’ve ever dreamed of trying but been too shy to, while knowing that you’d be right there doing it with me. When I say a partner in crime I mean it literally and not in the cheesy way. Thank you for holding my hands and taking me around the skate ramps when I thought I’d kill myself if I tried, you made me braver that day but also feel like the happiest of children. Thank you for coming slacklining when I was too shy to do it by myself as well as gymnastics, you’ve given me memories I will cherish forever. Thank you for our surf trip to Portugal, one of the coziest and warmest ones I’ve had, I’m glad it was different than our expectations, it made it all the more special <3. You always remind me there’s more to life and a side to me I tend to forget when I sit behind a desk for too long and I want you to know I am super grateful to you, it means so much! I think about you often, more often than you’d think and I dream of us going off somewhere as soon as this lockdown is over, tasting freedom again. Thank you for being yourself and living life leading by example. I am grateful I get to watch you do what you love doing with a passion and determination. You make it feel like summer never ends and fun is always around the corner.
I hope you get to skate in your favourite skates till you’re a 100, and undoubtedly they’d have the flashy light-up wheels even then. I hope you live a fulfilling life and get to find your favourite spot under the sun and breathe in the sea air daily with the man you love. And lastly, sorry to put you on the spot like this...but not really... because I hope everyone sees you the way I do, cos you’re lovely.
Hugs!
