🌟 New

  • Reblogs with matching text content can now appear in search results. Toggle on “Original posts only” under the filter options if you want to remove them.
  • A new 3-day duration is now available for new polls.
  • Community moderators and admins now have access to an audit log which shows the history of all moderation actions, including the reasoning, timing, and the specific content involved.
  • To reduce clutter, the community Moderators and Admins tabs have been removed and replaced by having moderators and admins displayed at the top of the Members tab.

🛠 Fixed

  • We fixed an issue that made it impossible to block an anonymous asker when reporting them. Blocking anonymous askers still blocks their IP address from sending you further anonymous asks.
  • We fixed an issue that was causing some replies to disappear as soon as they were posted.

🚧 Ongoing

  • We’re aware that some users are seeing the wrong activity filter options in the latest version of the iOS app, we’re working on a fix!

🌟 New

  • The character limit has been raised from 500 characters to 1,975 characters for all replies in our apps. The limit was previously raised on the web last month.
  • We have added new “since” and “before” search operators. Using both together will allow you to limit your search to a specific date range.
  • The number of online community members is now displayed in community recommendations and search results.
  • Posts reblogged into communities will no longer show notes from outside the community’s reblog.
  • Tumblr is home to some of the most incredible creatives on the web, from brilliant artists to creative fandoms. However, any such large community will also inevitably have bad actors who try to take advantage of the kindness and generosity of the community members, so please take a look at our new guide on how to avoid scammers.

🛠 Fixed

  • We weren’t displaying the right error message when admins were trying to update their community handle with invalid characters. This is fixed now!
  • When you receive a lot of grouped Activity items on Web, we now fetch more Activity items, so you can scroll through more Activity items before you need to click “See Everything”.
  • Ads are no longer interrupting background audio in the iOS app as of version 36.7. Please update your apps!

🚧 Ongoing

  • In the iOS app, adding tags to a queued/drafted reblog will remove its queue/draft state, meaning the action button switches to “Reblog” which publishes the reblog if tapped. The fix will be in version 36.8 of the iOS app. For now, either add tags to those on the Web, or be extra careful about checking the action button before tapping it.

Threaded Replies are here!

Ever find it difficult to figure out what someone is replying to? Same! Now, when you reply to someone’s reply, it’ll create a nice indented thread. 

  • Reply to a thread by clicking the reply icon at the bottom of a comment or tapping the meatball menu on a reply, then hitting “Reply.” 
  • Collapse a thread of comments with “Hide replies” or load more with “Show more replies.” 
  • Threads are only one level deep—replies to a thread will show at the end of that thread. 
  • You’ll be notified when someone replies to you.

This should help keep conversations in replies more organized, meaning you don’t have to scroll back to find the beginning of an exchange: It’s in a thread!

A wild update appears

Oh hello! You asked for the ability to reply to posts from your secondary blogs. This post exists to tell you that we’ve made it possible for you to reply to posts from your secondary blogs. That is all. 

Just kidding. Some benefits of this:

  • You can now reply to a post from your hyper-specific fandom secondary.
  • You can now keep the conversation going without reblogging the same post over and over again.
  • Your primary will remain hidden so you can communicate on posts from your secondary blog as if you were replying from a primary blog. Neat!

How do you do this, you might ask. On web and mobile, when you go to reply to a post, simply click or tap on your avatar, and select your secondary blog of choice from the list that appears.

🌟 New

  • When reporting a blog on web, we’ve updated the “Report spam” option to say “Report spam and/or bot”. We hope this clarifies that’s the flow to use when reporting a blog that looks like a bot.

🛠 Fixed

  • Fixed an issue in the post editor on web where the keyboard shortcut for “Select All” wouldn’t work correctly when adding a link to an image.
  • Also in the post editor on web, pressing Escape closes the text style menu as expected when highlighting text. Pressing Escape again closes the whole formatting option bar.
  • Also in the post editor on web, pressing Control + Enter to publish the post will no longer add an empty new line at the end of the post.

  • If you’re still receiving spammy, bot-looking followers, please keep reporting them to us. Thank you to everyone who’s been reaching out about this, the war against spam continues.

  • Fixed a bug on web that was showing certain blog settings to group blog members that only group blog admins should be able to see.

🚧 Ongoing

  • We’re still cleaning up the recent influx of spammy followers. Please make sure to report those bot followers as spam if you encounter them.
  • There’s a known bug in the Android app that’s preventing blog activity from showing up (it’ll appear to be empty, with an error message). We have a fix in the next version of the app we hope to release soon.
