The most valuable edible in Eryn Galen is the MUSHROOM.

There are about 8,000 species of mushrooms within Greenwood the Great, and those are only the ones formally named and identified!

Mushrooms are the Elvenking Thranduil's favorite food--especially cooked in red wine. And his entire family loves them! This is extremely unusual and somewhat controversial because historically and canonically, Elves (at least in the First Age) considered them unsuitable for food.

But the Silvans love and honor mushrooms as an important part of their forest ecosystem, and boy do they know how to harness all of their uses.

Just another reason why the Woodland Elves felt a kinship towards Hobbits. (Ignore the common allegation that Legolas was indifferent towards Frodo and co. That's nonsense.)
