Grand Declarations (Gil Galad x Reader)
Words: 3.6k

You’re a pessimist. You prefer your quiet libararies and books to interacting with others. By all accounts, Gil Galad was your polar opposite. And that just made it so much more bewildering as to why he spent so much time around you
*Gil galad*, Thranduil, Legolas
Two sites to find/choose your elvish name
At the bottom of the page you will find letters, select the initial of your name and see the Quenya form of it.
Quenya: a High Elven language, a speech of the Noldor and Vanyar.
In this one you’re gonna put your preferences such as Quenya or Sindarin form, you can search a name bases on a particular meaning and put preferences on letters and sounds. It will give a list of many names that you can choose.
At Elfdict.com you can search if your name is an actual word in several Tolkien's languages, e.g. mine is a Quenya word meaning wise.

A/n: The gifs of elrond & Sauron close in a flashback
You and some of the other elves were supposed to depart from middle earth a few years before the war of the ring. But none of you were fully ready to leave the home you had known.
Instead most of you who slowly traveled to the Gray Havens before you returned back to Imladris, to wait longer to leave.
However things became darker in middle earth. Elrond had even called a council meeting to discuss what was happening.
But things didn’t seem dark in Imladris, the sun still shined, the birds still sung, the flowers grew bright and tall, and the wind was still cool.
“You should have left, we both should have, years ago. For Soon we all will have too even if we are not ready to.” Gildor spoke as he approached you in the gardens.
“I couldn’t leave. Not at the time meleth nin.” You told him, just barely allowing your hand to caress his face.
“It’s becoming to dangerous to stay. And our time here is at its end.” He spoke softly, almost a whisper.
He looked so strong and intense and like love was nonexistent to him, but in reality he was gentle and passionate and so full of love.
“I know, but I had rather lingered here with danger outside our doors just to stay with you, than sail off waiting for you to come after, especially when you have been delaying yourself as well.” You told him. “Besides, even when you should have left you chose not to.” You reminded him.
A smile formed on his face at your words, as he too didn’t wish to leave Imladris. He had made the journey to the Gray Havens too and returned just as you.
“I enjoy staying here, it makes me feel connected to the many memories we have formed here in middle-earth. I remember them so well, even if they happened a life time ago.” He spoke thinking back to the day you told him you loved him.
Elrond had lead you all under Gil-galad’s command to Mordor to defeat Sauron’s army. The alliance between men, dwarves, and elves had been strong at the time and Sauron was a common enemy.
At the time you and Gildor were only friends, though the feelings were there and strong. You both had known one another since you were elflings running around Forlond, long before Imladris became your home.
“(Y/n).” Gildor had called to you worry in his voice, as he approached before battle.
“What’s wrong Gildor?” You questioned concerned looking at your friend.
“If things go bad run, just run.” He said to you.
You looked his face over and over again reading the emotion that was across his face. He was serious and concerned for you, yet he knew you well enough to know you wouldn’t run from a battle you were needed at.
“You know I can’t promise that. I will not run from a fight when others will stand.” You told him.
He knew this already, but he loved you and didn’t want to lose you before he told you or before anything could happen.
He thought in that moment he could tell you, but the words wouldn’t come as if his mind was holding them back.
You had hoped he would tell you he felt the same, that in that moment he was honestly afraid that he might lose more than a friend. You could’ve told him of course, but your mind didn’t listen to your heart.
And with no words of affection were spoken, though to others the way the two of you looked at one another should’ve said it all.
“Then promise to call for me if you need me.” He said to you. “I will always have your back.” He told you placing a hand on your shoulder.
“I know you do Gildor, and I will always have yours.” You replied to him.
Before you knew it the battle had begun. Allies, friends, and family began to fall, but for every one of you that fell every two of the enemy fell.
You had stayed near Gildor the best you could while fighting. Everyone had scattered around the battlefield some more closer to allies while others were surrounded by the enemy.
The two of you were use to fighting alongside one another, that was the way you trained, side by side. The two of you knew how to use each other’s strength and skill, but you knew each other’s weaknesses too.
In the mist of the battle every man, dwarf, and elf stopped when Sauron himself appeared on the battleground.
Compared to any of you he was huge and honestly terrifying. He stood over anyone and could be seen clear even in the darkness of Mordor.
You all watched as he made his way out into the battle, with one wave of his mace combined with the use of his magic no one was safe from him as they were thrown back.
For once you felt unsure about what could happen to you or to Gildor. He too felt the uncertainty of his outcome of the battle.
It was clear on both your faces as you watch Sauron toss warriors across the battlefield that you didn’t know what would happen next.
In that moment your heartbeat was faster than ever. Nervous and worried you could no longer keep the truth from him.
“Gildor.” You called to him quietly, still facing Sauron’s direction.
“Yes (y/n).” He replied in the same low tone. He too still looking towards Sauron.
“I love you.” You finally confessed looking at him.
“What a great time to tell me.” He replied seriously. “When we face such a dangerous enemy.” He added.
You couldn’t believe his response, you had just confessed that you loved him and all he could say was it was a great time to tell him. You knew it could’ve been unexpected but an actual response on how he felt would’ve been better. Honestly you were ready to say something to him but he spoke back up.
“But I’m glad you said that, (y/n).” He said finally turning to look at you.
“Really?” Was all you could manage to find yourself to say.
“Really. Because I love you too.” He confessed to you. “And I want to tell you before the battle, but I couldn’t.” He told you.
“I couldn’t tell you before either.” You admitted to him.
“Really?” He asked a little in disbelief, but obviously relieved you did.
Before you could say anything else however both of yours attention goes to Elendil who charged towards Sauron. In his attempt at killing Sauron he is tossed into some rocks. Isildur is quick to his side and from there you all witnessed the one ring being cut from Sauron’s hand.
It was then when he disappeared that the two of you knew you would hopefully be able to spend your lives together without being in another battle.
“We both love it here, we always have, but the time for us to leave approach’s quickly.” You replied taking his hand in yours. “But the memories will never fade from our mind. Even of the day you thought of now.” You said to him.
“You are right meleth nin.” He replied kissing your forehead. “This time we travel together to the Gray Havens and from there sail west.”

Gil-Galad headcannons
* Gil galad is an Ellon with relatively endless patience. He takes adversity in as much stride as he does most everything else, with a smile. His mood is set in a consistent perk and rarely fades and takes a great deal to remove it.
* Consistently tries his best to let most problems roll right off as he doesn’t see the need in needlessly stressing over something that could simply be dismissed. This does not mean that he doesn’t care about things, he cares a great deal about most things and most people whether they concern him or not. This simply means that on top of his kingdom and his people he doesn’t have the emotional compacity to spare to extra odds and ends.
* Has the most intoxicatingly charming laugh. When Gil Galad laughs and chuckles both will render you enchanted and full of warmth, honestly it’s the most reassuring sound you could ever hear in times of unrest. He’s not shy about laughing either, he loves to laugh and enjoys telling lame, outdated, and/or nonsense jokes. The type of guy to laugh while telling it and kinda ruins the delivery. The experience was nice though.
* Amazingly supportive about relatively anything you feel comfortable sharing with him. With give amazing advice if you’d like and will keep it all secret to his grave. Please feel confident in sharing your secrets and feelings with Gil Galad because he would never imagine betraying your trust in this life or the next.
* Gil Galad collects books but not quite in the way most individuals do. The books in his private collection stowed away in his quarters are very private in a specific way. He collects books that remind him of the people dearest to him. In this way he has something of them to bring him comfort in the walls of his chambers and inner workings for his moments of turmoil.
