He stopped when he realized he hadn’t seen you. Everyone had been cheering for him and his children had greeted him so his mind was away from you until now.

He turned back behind him, his eyes scanning the crowd of villagers for that one face, your face.

You couldn’t be found and that meant only one thing you were gone.

“Da! What’s wrong?” Tilda asked seeing his attention focused elsewhere.

“They left.” Sigrid told him looking sad for him.

“With the dwarves.” Bain added.

He was a bit relieved but still sad nonetheless. You had left without saying a ‘goodbye’ to him, but you were alive.

You had left to lake-town after the dwarves had escaped. Not for care of them but of worry with the orcs heading that way.

You had left as soon as you could without being noticed by your father, brother or Tauriel and made fast for the town thanks to your horse.

By the time you arrived Bard was out walking to a shop. You quickly dismounted and ran inside to him.

“(Y/n)! What are you doing this far from Mirkwood?” He asked both confused and worried.

“The town is in danger Bard. Thorin Oakenshield and his company bring danger to the town.” You spoke quickly and quietly not to worry any people around.

“Thorin Oakenshield?” Bard asked in disbelief, he hadn’t realized who he was as the shop owner handed him a tapestry of the Durin line.

“I know they are here. It’s okay that you helped them Bard but they are being chased by Bolg and a group of orcs.” You told him. “And if they go for the mountain they will wake Smaug. The town is in danger.” You added.

“Why do you risk everything to help us (y/n)? Even when you don’t have to.” Bard said looking at you both worried and thankful.

“You know why Bard.” You replied as he look at the tapestry.

“Because we’re allies? Come on (y/n) Thranduil wouldn’t send you here even if he knew there was something in the water.” He replied still not looking at you.

He was right of course any time you showed up in lake-town to warn them or something you always said it was because you were allies and had to look out for them. But this was bigger than those other times.

“I care for you Bard. I wouldn’t be able to sit back and watch things happen to you, your family or even this town.” You told him not believing what you were about to say. “I risk everything because love you so much.” You confessed.

His eyes left the tapestry, slowly moving up to look at you. He hadn’t expected that answer, he knew his kids had picked up on his feelings for you but he never thought you felt the same. After all you were the (prince/princess) of Mirkwood, how could like him?

“(Y/n)...” he said almost to soft for anyone to here.

“It’s okay Bard. I excepted it long ago that the feelings weren’t shared.” You told him and you could’ve believed you could see tears forming in his eyes.

“But they are.” He admitted now causing you to look at him in shock. “(Y/n) I love you too.”
