some info about this page
welcome! this account has grown so much I decided to let you guys know a couple of things so we don’t misunderstand each other:
- I tag things as ADHD and various other related tags, but I don’t use the term ADD because it’s outdated. the DSM-5 changed the criteria for diagnosis of ADHD to include inattentiveness, the previous hallmark of ADD, so all of these symptoms are now under the term ADHD. there are several different types of ADHD, but they are all classified as the same disorder.
- I reblog and post things that entertain me or apply to me, but I’m not saying that this is the experience of every other ADHD person. this blog is just a fun way for me to jokingly complain about this crazy messed-up brain chemistry I’ve got, and I realize not everyone experiences it the same way as me.
- I don’t pretend to be an expert about ADHD — not even close — because I’m very new to this as a whole. I have not been diagnosed for very long. I do a lot of reading about the symptoms and medications, but I would not say that I’m the best person to ask if you have a serious question about ADHD.
- this is a safe space for ADHD people of all types, and those who believe they have ADHD or are in the process of testing are also welcome. if the latter applies to you, you’re welcome to follow this blog, but I ask that you not identify yourself as ADHD until you have the word from your doctor or psychiatrist. this disorder is very difficult to diagnose, especially because it’s so commonly comorbid with other disorders. it’s hard to tell which symptoms come from which disorder, so I am most definitely opposed to “self-diagnosis.”
- people with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) are welcome to reblog posts that apply to them as well! I had not noticed before that there is a lot of overlap between ADHD and ASD, so a lot of autistic people can relate to my posts! I explain a little bit more in this answered ask what this means.
- I don’t think “ADHD is a superpower.” it can be annoying at best, and debilitating at the very worst. it does come with some cool perks (like hyperfocus), but I think that just comes with the territory. if you think that ADHD is a superpower because you have a couple of unique gifts, I’m not likely to get along with you. sorry.
- and as much as I complain about being oversensitive or unmotivated or what-have-you, I understand that my ADHD is a part of me, and it’s part of who I am. it doesn’t define me, but it’s inseparable from my personality in some ways.
- I don’t have a set posting schedule either, and I just kind of post or reblog whatever happens to be on my mind at the time. so worry not if I don’t post for awhile (although I doubt that will happen).
- I’m an organized tagger! if you’re looking for something, chances are I have it tagged! for example, here’s rsd, hyperfixation, and asd!
- I never check my mentions (because I have tons of notifications and a lot of other blogs), but I feel bad that I’m probably missing some things! if you have something you want me to see, you can always submit! I also track the tag ‘adhdmoi’!
- if you’re looking for discourse you won’t find it on my blog. I’m just here to complain good-naturedly about this messed-up brain I have(:
- blog info is tagged #sincerely admin, and stuff about adhd is tagged #info
- general content warnings: occasional swearing, but absolutely no NSFW content. ever.
