I’ve actually been roleplaying with Nari quite a bit on discord lately, getting further into her backstory and her relationship with Quinn…oh, and torturing her a bit, of course. So this came at a good time (even though as usual it took me forever to get around to writing it!)

Weapons flash by her head, so fast she can’t even tell what they are. She dodges, left, then right, barely missing being hit every time.
Then there’s fire, and it’s everywhere, inescapable. Crying out, she throws her arms over her head, but it doesn’t keep the flames from singeing her skin.
She drops to the ground, panting, darkness suddenly falling all around her. It’s too quiet. She knows the villains are still out there, knows they’re going to strike again at any second. And she’s helpless, she…she doesn’t know why, but her power isn’t working. She can’t find anything to throw, can’t make her magic reach out and grab anything.
