Hitman's Wife’s Bodyguard (2021): “My Ribs Are Broken. I Came Down A Little Case Of 12 Gauge Shotgun To The Chest. Remember?”
The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard (2021)
Have you watched the Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard and experienced and accepted Mr. Michael Bryce as our Asexual King of Whump yet?
Yes I have (very recently too) and YES I HAVE!!!
MICHAEL BRYCE = ASEXUAL WHUMP KING!!
First of all this movie was fantastic fun and had some great whump in it. Ryan Reynolds whump really is so damn good. But that line!! "It must be you powerful asexuality that makes you such a great listener". I don't even care if this was meant to be a derogatory joke or whatever because I love how she said it with love, she said the actual word asexuality which is exciting, he didn't deny anything, and asexual Michael Bryce is fantastic idea and no one can take this away from me. I love it. He is our ace whump king and I will not accept anything less.

Hitman's Wife’s Bodyguard (2021): “My Ribs Are Broken. I Came Down A Little Case Of 12 Gauge Shotgun To The Chest. Remember?”
I watched Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard this evening and there is a part where a character refers to Ryan Reynolds character as asexual, he makes a slightly confused face but doesn't deny it and it is never brought up again and I just want to pretend it's true. How often do we get the word "asexuality" actually spoken out loud in a Hollywood movie, let alone letting it fly without verbal denial 🥺
WHHAAAT?!!? WHAT!!! The word "asexuality" is actually used in a Hollywood film!? As if I didn't already need to watch this movie because of the great whump I hear about, this happens in it too?!?! HOW EXCITING!!!!! THE WORD IS ACTUALLY USED!? I LOVE IT!!
I hope it wasn't used as a huge derogatory joke making fun of Ryan's character but even if it was (god that'd be sad. i hope it was used in a happy/good way) that is enough for me to accept as canon tbh. He didn't deny it! The word was used to describe him and he didn't deny it! And when I think about his character from the first movie i can totally see him as ace. Oh my god I might cry. I love rep even tiny minuscule amounts of it. I'm so starved for ace rep. Most of it is so bad or only word of author/word of god that any mention of the actual word being used makes me ridiculously happy.
That's it. Michael Bryce is now a member of the ace community. I refuse to accept anything less.
Oh I just watched that today too!! The quote was "It must be your powerful asexuality that makes you such a good listener" so it wasn't exactly negative, but maybe a bit stereotyping? But yeah, he didn't say anything about it, just looks confused, like maybe he hasn't heard the term before?? I already feel like I need to go back and watch that part again
Oh that doesn't sound too bad! Doesn't seem negative and there's definitely a lot worse stereotyping of asexuality in film and tv out there. I kinda like this one? He wasn't called weird or abnormal or a robot or any of the other countless terrible things that are used. Being a good listener is good! And honestly I kinda love the interpretation that maybe he's confused because he hasn't heard the word before. I'm all about that. Sounds good! Of course I still have to watch the scene/movie but I like it! Hurrah for the word actually being said out loud!!
