1. I think I can be pretty funny and I’ve always liked that

2. My protective nature. I’ve always been protective of those I care for and I will do anything to keep them safe and happy.

- Brainwashing or similar, where the character smiles creepily, - Dehumanisation that ranges from a) whumpee being treated like an animal to b) a literal curse that removes humanity e.g. King Triton being turned into a worm-like creature by Ursula in “The Little Mermaid” or the horrific Hollow experiments in the anime “Made in Abyss”, - Humiliation e.g. what Quasimodo went through in “Hunchback of Notre Dame” or David’s struggle in “All Dogs Go To Heaven 2”, - Beaten up, left to die alone in a cold dark alley e.g. Greg Sanders’s traumatic experience in the CSI episode “Fannysmackin’”: the writing was excellent in that they showed him weeks later with the bruises gradually fading, and he was shaken and clearly stressed out having to testify in court for the same case, - Dark circles under eyes from mental exhaustion or drained of life force (for the latter, there was a Neopets comic called “Hannah and the Ice Caves” that had a page showing this and wow…whumperflies), - Unable to get out of bed due to being frozen in trauma (a great example is Jamie Fraser’s ordeal from the Outlander S1 finale..He was also suicidal as he had been raped. This sums up how heavy I usually want my whump to be)

Ohhhh yes please.

Oddly specific but I love abdominal stab wounds. The pained noises; the restricted movements; breathing shallowly.

Bleeding out slowly. The way their skin takes on a deathly pallor. Their heart rate increases. Respirations increase. Feeling faint, “I’m gonna pass out”– and then they do.

Hidden injury. “I’m fine, it’s not that bad.” The team finding out suddenly that whumpee really was not fine.

Head injury. The pain, visual disturbances, speech difficulties, and loss of consciousness.

Altered level of/loss of consciousness. Dizziness, faintness, passing out, coming to, feeling fuzzy or not all there. Vision going dark around the edges; vision whiting out.

Nausea/vomiting. I like brief episodes of this in conjunction with head injuries and loss of consciousness.

Anxiety/panic attacks. Whumpee trying so hard to keep it together, trying to mask their physical signs of anxiety, but it’s slowly crescendoing into something they can’t hide from their team. Sweaty palms, shaking, heart rate accelerating, hyperventilation, headache, trouble speaking, and all the internal sensations of panic.

PTSD/traumatized. Whumpee hitting odd triggers, being jumpy, panicking. Hitting a rage jag and screaming at their team over petty things. Isolating themselves. Breakdowns. Nightmares, waking up screaming.

Prosthetics/amputations/scars. I’m a sucker for whumpees with permanent aftereffects of their trauma.

Also very much here for the touch averse/touch starved trope.

Environmental whump. I love when whumpees are facing the elements and it doesn’t look good. Starvation, dehydration, hypothermia, heat stroke, storms, natural disasters.

of course the moment a question asking for my favorite something is put in front of me i forget everything i’ve ever liked lmao, but let’s attempt this. maybe won’t be specific but just favorite tropes

- a character who does things alone and doesn’t really have anyone to turn to (or doesn’t want to ask for help) getting hurt and trying to fix themselves alone - on the other hand, i also love when someone notices somethings wrong or saves them from a bad situation - exhaustion, in most shapes and forms. being tired, just wanting to go home and sleep after a bad situation, not sleeping for whatever reasons, the comfort of falling asleep on the couch and their friend putting a blanket on them, all of that and more - dizziness, like when they hit their head (headaches! love that too) or were drugged or overusing some power (in that case i absolutely love some magical exhaustion + nosebleed too) big fan of that blurry vision thing that shows and movies do - a character taken hostage in front of their friend/team. just that action of the enemy grabbing them and putting a gun to their head or knife to their throat, i love it - almost drowning, either through waterboarding (the one where they shove the characters head under water) or actually out in a lake or ocean, maybe cause they got knocked out before -also choking, maybe pinned against the wall or to the floor or held in a chokehold, always happy when they end up passing out from that too - anything really that involves the tech/science/non fighter person getting hurt or captured or having to be protected or saved by the others - also characters that can generally handle themselves getting hurt or captured. in that case i love either the usually tough or calm and collected one being vulnerable or completely unhinged or of course the all time favorite defiant, snarky character continuing to keep it up even when things get bad - also anything that involves head slamming, into the wall or floor or table or whatever - just like, a good punch in the face - adding onto that, fights where the power dynamic is pretty equal or just slightly off (everyone involved taking and landing a couple of hits, to get that perfect mix of badass fighting, vulnerability and aesthetic bloody faces) - being restrained, like handcuffed or hands tied with rope or zip ties and just put them in a chair, maybe tie their legs together too. a favorite here also being when theyre already tied up and thrown to the floor and they cant catch themselves

okay this got very long, unsurprisingly, i love talking about my favorite tropes (even if most of these arent super oddly specific) and i’m sure i still forgot some faves but if i try to think of everything this will never get posted, sooo

Honestly I have so many and I’m constantly adding based on my current obsession lol

- coughing up blood. Dude. Never gets old. Especially if there’s actually a good amount of blood and you get that panicked expression and wheezing. Just 🤌

- after a head injury or hypothermia, when one character has had to keep the other awake. The whumpee so tired and finally safe and they just hit you with “can I sleep now?” Aaaaaaaaaa my heart! That’s the shit right there. And thanks to @set-phasers-to-whump I’m fully obsessed

- confessing things when close to death. Like in Arrow when Oliver and Felicity are stuck in the bunker and he’s bleeding out. So many feels

- and related - bleeding out, but specifically when there’s ACTUALLY BLOOD. I want gallons of it, bloody trails after the whumpee where they’re trying to drag themselves along.

- the old stab and drag. Stab them and then twist the knife or drag it up in the wound.

- when a drowning whumpee’s chest does that bucking thing as they try to not breath….. Mmmm hm. Me likey

And of course so many more that I can’t even remember right now. Like the Jacket Grab™️, whimpers while unconscious, etc. I fucking love whump so much!

Alright so I’m pretty sure I understand the rules but correct me if I mess up. Reading comprehension is not my strong suit.

1. When I first started in the whump community, I seriously doubted bad caretakers; however, a few prompts and fics later and now I totally see the potential. Long story short, not my all time favorite but also definitely really cool and I’d love to see more of it.

2. Beautiful. Just outstanding. Especially when they finally get that hug they oh so need.

3. Really good concept and potential, but I’m bad at writing it so I never get to implement it in my writing :( But I love seeing it in other people’s stuff! A very good trope indeed.

Now for my own personal favorite tropes:

1. Oh yes. Pet whump 10/10! As long as we are talking about “humans” or inhumans, not like puppies or kitties.

2. Cold whump… yes…?? Particularly when it’s cold outside and it’s easier for me to get in the mood to read or write it. If I have to suffer, so do my whumpees!

3! Love a stoic caretaker to the ends of the earth. I think a bubbly whumpee hasn’t had their spirit broken enough. BACK TO THE TORTURE CHAMBERS!

and for myself.

1. The Box BoyVerse. Just *vaguely gestures* everything! This is the most charming, and attractive part of whump for me. I love the whump community as a whole, and I especially love the partakers of the Boxyverse and just a special breed of sickos💖💖

2. Inhuman Whump. Particularly winged whumpees. Particularly vampires, demons, and angels in that order.

3. Heroes x Villain to Lovers😂 yeah. Just leave me in my Wattpad days of shame alone!

1. Tbh I didn’t even know what the box boy verse was until now (I had to look it up 🙈). It’s not exactly my cup of tea bUT I can certainly see the appeal!!

3. YESSSSSS!! I love love love the whole character development change to another side type of stuff. I’d watch hero x villain everyday (movies or whatever) everyday if I could

Now for myself I’m not really knowledgeable on what tropes are specifically but here we go:

1. Torture. Psychological torture. If it show the whumpee breaking, begging, or crying it goes on a gifset immediately 👏🏼

Like just the whole “just hurt me, they have nothing to do with this”, or “why are you doing this?” BabdheuBevegvavwhrvsbav hecks yes

I remember an arrow episode I think where a character was lying on the ground just crying and begging bc they were gonna hurt someone (if I remember correctly) gotta love that one

2. I don’t know if there’s a name for this but when a character realizes the situation they’re in is wayyyy too much for them. Like character 1 has just fought way too many ppl, they’re struggling to breath, a bit bloody, etc. suddenly boom. Big bad walks in fresh out of the oven and ready to kick ass.

Like when this happens and the camera pans to c1 and it’s just a face full of fear (better if they’re on the brink of tears and just exhausted). And then it’s just the anticipation of - is c1 gonna keep fighting? Are they gonna try and bargain with bigbad? …. Maybe surrender?? Who knows!! But it’s good anyways!!!

3. Is manhandling a trope? Just hair grabbing, slapping, whumper holding the whumpees chin or throat. Also caretaker just throwing a reluctant whumpee over their shoulder, done with their bs, and just yeeting them on top of a bed and telling them to stay there bc no fighting until fever goes down hehehe 💖 love that

My thoughts on your tropes:

1. Torture. Yes I'm a big fan of torture! Especially psychological torture! I love it! It always leads to some good emotional breakdowns and comfort and maybe some begging. Good shit.

2. Huh you know what I've never thought about that situation before but that is fantastic. I like it. I can picture the whumpee just exhaustively slumping and going "oh shit".

3. Manhandling is always a good trope! Classic! And so versatile. There's so many ways to manhandle a character and it can be both whumper manhandling like dragging them down a hall or grabbing them by the hair, full of struggling and fighting, or it could be comfort manhandling like forcing something to stay in bed when their sick and fighting them.

Okay my tropes!

1. Fevers. Look I love a good fever. I love when the whumpee feels hot and someone reaches out to feel their forehead and they sigh in relief because the person's hand is cool to the touch. I love when their fevers get too high and they thrash in their sleep or hallucinate and need to be cooled down. Oh this usually leads to an ice bath which is another favorite trope of mine. Fucking love a good ice bath scene.

2. Broken bones. Broken legs, arms, ribs, i love it all. I love the initial snap of the bone and the scream (or the silent hard gasp as it breaks). I love a cast and a sling. I's all great.

3. Magical exhaustion. This one isn't used as often as I'd like in tv shows but any time a magic user has to go beyond their powers ability or use it for a longer time than their used to and they end up with a bleeding nose and their struggling to keep it going and then they finally finish and they just collapse boneless to the ground exhausted and drained. Give me that. I love it.
