Dude, I’m currently obsessed with ‘Kevin (Probably) Saves The World’ and that’s where all my giffing is going into right now (if tumblr ever fixes the tags so my sets actually show up XP), I love it soooo much! And it’s so much fun to gif. X) And YES those gifs by whumpypepsigal are literally what got me here; I had no idea there was a whump community until I saw those amazing ‘Raising Dion’ sets and I found you all through that! I’m so thankful for that person for those sets. I had actually wanted to start writing fanfiction again for ‘Raising Dion’ specifically to whump Jason and to fix what they did with his character. XP Ahhhhhh and yes ‘The Event’ whump is sooooooo good I love Jason in there like AHHHH!!!!! His whole storyline in that episode is so fantastic I watch it over and over again and just live in content. XD Gosh but I could go on and on about Jason. :P
My sister is the only one that knows about me too, and she doesn’t fully understand it either, but she doesn’t judge me for it for now so I’m just holding on to that. If my mom knew, she’d probably think I was possessed by a demon or something for being sadistic. It’s really scary to think about. I’m really glad I can come here and chat with you about it and not feel alone.
Okay, so I’m a little confused; I looked up ‘Sexual Attraction’ and everything I read says it means ‘you find someone hot or pretty or attractive’, so I definitely have that with actors, but then other sites say it’s ‘wanting to have sex with that person’, which I definitely do NOT have. So am I asexual or am I not? And literally everything you described about Arousal is exactly me (especially the ‘TMI’ part, I’m really thankful you described it that way because I couldn’t possibly know how to describe it but it’s amazing to see it in words), so I’m confused again; if I’m not asexual and I still have these arousal feelings from whump, does that make me a sadist after all? I’m sorry if these are embarrassing questions to ask, I just don’t know who else to ask, and all my googling has been very confusing and not helpful. I find many, many actors hot and that’s what makes them whumpees for me, especially if they have really good screams or pained noises. And an equally attractive pained face. I’m really scared that I am a sadist.

Same! Doesn't get it but doesn't judge. It's nice. She's a writer who focuses on fluff but she now comes to me when she needs help with a whump scene lol. And omg yes my mom would be the same! That definition of sexual attraction always confused and bothered me when I see it on sites because I feel like that's not exactly it. So I think I'll start with a few definitions and explanations which I think might help.
For starters, sexual attraction and arousal/sex drive are two separate things. One can feel arousal without any sexual attraction and vice versa. Your sex drive and arousal is just your body going "I want sex". Sexual attraction is "I want sex with that person". Arosual can happen when your body is stimulated and doesn't have to have anything to do with attraction. Just like you can be attracted to someone but not have the drive to sleep with them.
Secondly asexuality is experiencing little to no sexual sexual attraction. That's it. That's the only "requirement". You might have a high libido/sex drive or no libido. Doesn't make a person any less or more ace. Personally I have a fairly high libido but absolutely zero attraction. So I just take care of myself and I'm good. Some asexuals choose have sex without feeling sexual attraction.
And there are different types of attractions. Sexual, romantic, sensual, aesthetic, and more. Sexual attraction: I want to have sex with that person. Romantic attraction: I want to date that person. Sensual attraction: I want to hold their hand or cuddle with that person. Aesthetic attraction: that person is pleasing to look at. Platonic attraction: I want to be friends with that person.
The hard part, at least for me, is figuring out which of them you are feeling in the moment. And a lot fo times these overlap with each other too which makes things confusing as well. I most often feel aesthetic, platonic, and sensual attraction. I do not feel sexual or romantic hence why I identify as asexual and aromantic.
Sexual attraction makes zero sense to me to be honest. I don't get it. People have described it to me but it's not an easy thing for people to describe cause they just feel it and know what it is. The best way I can describe it as when allos (people who are not under the asexual umbrella) see someone they find sexually attractive then those feeling like we get with whump. Like they'll look at someone and "think damn that person is hot and I would like to have sex with them" and the physical feelings happen at the same time. The word hot is used literally because attractive people make them feel hot. Which I definitely don't get lol. I don't know about you but that has literally never happened to me in my life. So sexual attraction is the "I want to have sex with this person". The "finding someone hot or pretty" is much more aesthetic attraction. You can find someone beautiful and not want to have sex with them. My whumpees are all people I find hot aesthetically. Any time I say a character/actor is hot I mean aesthetically. I like to look at them like I enjoy a nice sculpture or painting. I do not want to have sex with a painting. That sounds like you too.
As for sadism, I can't speak too much about this because I am not one but as I understand it, sadists derive sexual pleasure from inflicting pain on others. There's nothing wrong with that as long as you and your partner are both consenting to whatever you do in the bedroom. Lots of people enjoy that. It's not bad. If you wonder if you're a sadist ask yourself and reflect on whether this fits with you. For example, with myself cause I also wondered the same thing, in my actual life i do not like hurting people, I don't find anything sexually pleasing about hurting others so I am not a sadist. But I do want to make it clear that there isn't anything wrong with being a sadist! It all comes down consent. If you and your partner are consenting amd happy then you're good! You do you!
Honestly when it comes to whump, the way I see it is if you view it as a sexual thing than it is but if you don't think of it as sexual then it's not.
So me personally, I do not derive any sexual pleasure from whump at all. My feelings and sensations seem to be similar to what people experience with sexual attraction but I don't view whump as a sexual thing to me at all so in my head what I feel is not sexual attraction. What exactly it is I honestly don't know. I think that's why I love the term whumperflies. It gives this feeling it's own thing and I love that. There's no element of sex with whump to me at all. For some people there is though and that's totally cool! We all have our likes and dislikes and none are bad so long as we aren't hurting others (without their consent anyway ;) ).
In the end it's totally up to you how you view things. Based on what you've said it sounds a lot like me in that whump is not a sexual thing for you but rather you enjoy the aesthetics of it and the whumperflies ot gives you. But I'm not gonna tell you for certain because ultimately it's up to you to decide what you feel! I can offer advice and definitions and my own experiences though which I hope helps some.
So that was my very long slightly ramble response. I hope it's somewhat helpful 😅

Okay, your reply actually made me tear up. Guess it's my emotional week, haha. Thank you so much for saying those things; my god it feels so good to hear that maybe I'm not weird, and to know that other people feel this way too and like these things and don't judge me for my preferences.
My whumping started as a kid too, with good ol' Teen Titans. It was the first time I had ever seen the show, and the first scene that I saw was Robin falling through the ground and presumed dead; the whumperflies hit me hard and I had no idea what the feeling was, and I just thought "Wow this is a good show." Since then I had always used my bed time to imagine whumpy scenes; sometimes I'd even go to bed early just to do it before I was too tired to think. But that feeling that I had really scared me, I thought I was a bad person this whole time, or a creepy child. I can't believe other children did this too, it's so relieving to hear.
Dude, I'm literally watching B99 right now and that episode where Jake breaks his ribs but still wants to go after the guy and keeps ignoring Terry's orders to rest is just chef's kiss. I also love Cardcaptor Sakura so that's awesome too!
Whump is so scary to even think about when I'm around people because what if they suddenly saw into my head and were completely weirded out? I kind of hate watching things with people because of that. And that makes me feel lonely, because I still like watching shows with my family but I always have that in the back of my mind. And what if a whump scene comes up and then I see how they react to it adversely and I feel bad for secretly relishing in it?
I read the post you linked, and one statement jumped out at me: "A lot of us are asexual too and I think whump gives us similar feelings to arousal without it being sexual. (at least for me it does)" so if it's okay with you, may I ask you to elaborate? I think that's me but I also don't want to assume if I'm interpretting it incorrectly. I don't know much about asexuality and I know even less about arousal so I could be totally wrong in thinking that's me, but I don't know how else to describe why I like whump.
Okay I have seriously become obsessed with Jason Ritter so if you or anyone else wants to squeal about him PLEEEEEEEEASE let me know because I have NO ONE to talk to about this man and it's seriously driving me crazy. I need all the whump for him! I've watched everything he's ever been in by now and his whump is sooooo little. DX But he has a good scene of whump in 'The Long Road Home' where he gets shot but still pushes himself and it's soooo good, but there's no aftermath for it and it suuuuucks. Still, I watch that scene over and over like a freak (ever seen 'Death Becomes Her'? I'm Goldie Hawn rewinding Meryl Streep's death scene over and over again. XD) Plus there's his whump in Raising Dion which is great too but they completely invalidate it with the twist and that's really annoying. X( God I could go on and on I'm sorry I'll shut up now.

Teen Titans is great! That's a great show to first find out you like whump! Robin whump (for any Robin) is good whump 👍 Omg yes I had no idea other kids did it either until I found this community. Its soooo common! You're definitely not alone in doing that and you're definitely not a bad person for it! And I looove that episode of Brooklyn so much. It's THE BEST! I also like the episode where he got shot by Amy. Good stuff 👍 Jason Ritter is amazing!!! I still have a lot of his work I haven't seen but he is such an underrated whump actor!!! I think I first fell for him when i watched Kevin Probably Saves the World (and then i got very sad wehn it was cancelled after a season) but he's so good in The Long Road Home and Raising Dion which I haven't actually watched yet but whumpypepsigal made some great gifs of his whump in it and i looooove it. Okay I 100% understand that feeling when watching shows with family. There is only one person in my real who knows that I like whump and that's my sister and she has been sworn to secrecy. I'm terrified of the day I slip up or she slips up and let my mom know what I actually like in my media because she would never ever understand it. I try very hard not to smile too much during whump scenes when I'm watching with people and I don't tell anyone what kind of fics I read or why certain episodes are my favorite. I love my family but they wouldn't get it. Especially my mom. She'd probably send me to therapy lol. I don't feel bad for enjoying what I enjoy anymore but I don't feel like trying to explain it to them ya know? So yes I understand completely and I think a lot of others here would as well. Okay the asexual attraction whumperflies comment. Yes. I would be more than happy to elaborate on that! It's a little hard to explain because I don't fully understand it myself and it's just kind of a theory I have about myself but I shall take a stab at it lol. So I'm asexual and that means i don't feel sexual attraction. At all. Don't know what that's like. But the feelings and sensations I experience when seeing good whump is similar to when I feel arousal (which is different from attraction by the way! Arousal can happen for a variety a reasons without the need of sexual attraction) and it's also very similar to what I've been told is sexual attraction but since I don't actually know what sexual attraction feels like I can't confirm that but I can describe what I experience. So when I find good whump I get flushed, my heart rate accelerates, I get a sort of clenching feeling in my genitals (tmi sorry), and sometimes my chest tightens. But those feelings for me are not at all associated with sex or anything related to sex. For some people it is but for me all those feelings mean to me is that the whump is good. I still have no desire to have sex and this isn't sexual to me at all. Funny enough I don't even think it has anything to do with the actor or character. It more so has to do with the visual or the sounds or the actions. Hence why sooo many characters and actors become my whumpees. So it's weird but my whumperflies and are like my ace version of what allos feel when they feel sexual attraction. I think? Like I said it's really hard to explain well. And this is just what I feel/think about it. I'm not speaking for anyone else. Did that even make sense?
Hello! You and your nonnies are so good at knowing things regarding whump! Do you know any movies/episodes with male character being in captivity for some time (I mean longer than your typical crime procedural kidnapping for a day or something)? Bonus points for the rescue?
I can’t recall anything long term, but as you pointed out, my fellow whumpers are usually so good at finding whatever it is you might be searching for.

THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS!!!
Unfortunately, it’s rarely (if ever) seen in TV. And if it IS seen, it’s glossed over massively to “this guy gets abducted” in one episode and “look we found him” several episodes later with no real content between the two.
The Unit did a good episode called SERE, though. It’s about an exercise in Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape - which is a real thing the military does. The team of five guys are all taken captive and held prisoner for some time, subjected to the same kinds of torture and interrogation they would be if they were taken by enemy forces. One of them is also ill when he’s taken, which adds to the whump/drama.
That’s honestly the only TV episode I can think of that really explores long-term captivity. Although my personal favorite, Once Upon a Time, did do a great couple of episodes in Season 5 (episodes 13/14) where Emma rescues Hook after a long captivity. We don’t get to see the captivity, but we know he’s been captive for awhile when the show rejoins him - and he’s definitely beaten and bloody as a result of it. And there’s a rescue!!
Movies are a lot more giving in this department. Ryan Philippe’s Catch Hell is good. He plays an actor who gets kidnapped by crazy rednecks, and while I can’t recall exactly how long they keep him for, his captivity lasts through the entire movie just about - and it feels like a nice long time ;)
Barracuda is another great movie. It’s in German, so you’ll have to read subtitles if you don’t speak that language - but it’s well worth it! It’s about a lonely old man who abducts a young neighbor to be his “friend”. This one is definitely a long captivity - and has lots of great whump!
Of course, we can’t forget Misery. It’s a long captivity classic!
In that same vein is Amnesiac, which is another “man kept captive in house/bed” film, this one with a bit more of a mystery to it, as he doesn’t remember who he is - nor who the woman is who’s keeping him captive and claims she’s his wife…
Arena would probably count as a film with a long captivity in it. The male lead gets abducted and “broken” through torture until he’s willing to engage in fights to the death versus other captives. Unfortunately, the lengthy torture/breaking is more of a brief montage with the movie itself focusing on the death matches and the male lead’s eventual revenge.
Bedlam has a male lead who’s being held in a mental hospital and is subjected to a bunch of old-timey medical treatments as torture/punishment. This one has a really gory looking intro, but the movie itself is pretty tame - so don’t let it scare you off.
And I would feel remiss if I didn’t recommend a couple of my favorite short term captivity works that do such a thorough job of exploring the captivity itself that they’re more satisfying than the usual “brief captivity” storyline. Those would be Buried with Ryan Reynolds and Brake with Stephen Dorff. Both films are pretty much 100% captive man in peril from beginning to end, with lots of fear and pain for your pleasure 😉

In theory I think topping someone would be fun, but firstly it’s hard to find someone and secondly I think it would be too sticky. I very shortly used a dating app, but it’s just too tiring. Okay first of all I want to preface this by saying that only you can determine if you’re aspec. The decision to identify as ace is one only you can make. So I can offer advice or resources or my opinions but I cannot tell you that you’re ace or aspec. If you think you are aspec then you’re aspec.
But you did ask for my opinion so I will say that from all of this it definitely sounds like you could fall on the asexual spectrum! What you’ve described here sounds like a lot of things that I and a lot of other aspec people feel/experience. For the record I am also a 29 year old female. Never having/wanting sex before, never having kissed anyone, looking at men for aesthetic reasons, no sexual fantasies, being kind of aroused by whump, like the idea of nonsexual cuddling, I’m right there with you on all of that. That can all totally indicate you’re ace.
As for where you fall on the spectrum, I can’t tell you that because I believe that only you can say that for sure but I can give you a few things to look at and think about that might help figure out.
Some things that helped me figure out which identity fit me the best was to sit down and seriously reflect on how I feel during certain situations and how I think about things in regard to physical intimacy and affection and sex. Like, I discovered I was actually pretty repulsed by the idea of kissing someone and holding hands is uncomfortable for me but I love hugs and cuddling. And that I’ve never actually experience sexual or romantic attraction but what I did feel was more akin to aesthetic, sensual, or platonic. Things like that.
There are lots of types of attraction and it really helps to sit down and figure out which one you’re feeling. There’s sexual and romantic attraction which everyone knows but there is also aesthetic (attraction to someone’s appearance but not having the need to pursue any type of physical, romantic, platonic, or sexual relationship), sensual (the desire to interact with others in a tactile, non-sexual way, such as through hugging or cuddling), emotional (a desire to learn more about the person), physical (a desire to touch or be touched) and more.
So if you like looking at topless men but don’t feel any desire to have sex with him? Could be aesthetic attraction (all the times i talk about how hot someone is? yeah for me it’s aesthetically attractive). Enjoy or have the desire for cuddling, hugging, holding hands, kissing but don’t want to have sex? Could be physical or sensual attraction. Want to hang out with someone and spend time with them but not date them or have sex? Could be platonic attraction (so many people I thought I was attracted to sexually or romantically turned out to just be platonic crushes).
A lot of what you’ve described sounds like you don’t feel sexual attraction but might experience more aesthetic and sensual attraction and have a libido which is not the same thing as attraction. That sounds very asexual to me. But like i said, it’s ultimately up to you! If you think your on the ace spectrum but aren’t sure of where on the spectrum you fall it’s okay to just use the term asexual. It’s both an identity and a spectrum so anyone who falls on the spectrum can use it. “Asexual” can be used by anyone who doesn’t experience sexual attraction. Whether you never experience it, only experience it when a deep emotional connection is made, or experience it but very rarely, the ace label is for you.

Remember that no one can determine your identity but you and labels are there to make you happy and comfortable. You’re not required to use them but you can also use as many as you want. @aceofwhump I KNOW RIGHT! i love hawkeye too, I don’t get the hate he gets from the fandom. it’s weird and baffling. the man is awesome lol. anyhow, this has the feel of Matt Fraction’s Hawkeye heart and humor to it. so hopefully we get to see that hawkeye - a man with heavy emotional whump and always ending up with many broken bones -ahhh the whumps. hope we get to see Lucky rescuing Clint and him saving Lucky 😭 in the first season …ahhhh this is gonna be a good series.
@deepwoundsandfadedscars i think it won’t make sense for them to use one of Matt Fraction’s Hawkeye deafness plot line where he gets partially deaf due to childhood abuse. considering MCU never showed him having any hearing problem, it will be odd for them to just introduce Clint with hearing aid out of the blue. maybe his hearing will get impaired during a mission? maybe they will use the comic issue where he gets stabbed in the ear 👇
there is a older comic issue where Clint gets deaf by a supersonic blast (i think?). MCU is known to loosely adapt their characters from the different comic storylines lol. either way, hope they do his character justice and show us how he gets deaf. have been waiting for this Clint version for awhile now
AGREED!!! The amount of people hating on Hawkeye has always annoyed me and confused me. I don't get it. Never will. But I'm so freaking excited for this show and I also really hope that we see the angsty, emotional, constantly getting beaten up, trying to keep up with high energy Kate, loving his dog Lucky Hawkeye that made me fall in love with the character!
