Mr. Hanson: You do what the Doc tells you! I will talk to O'Neil. Charles: It's not just stackin' the grain. I've got plowin' to do. I've got work in the barn. Doctor Baker: It will have to wait. I'll check back in a couple of days, Mrs Ingalls. Caroline: Thank you, Doctor. I'll see you out. Mr. Hanson: You stay in bed.
GOOD LORD I love giving whumpees broken ribs!!!
Struggle to breathe. The anxiety over not being able to take a full breath, and maybe not knowing why! The desperate gasps! THE PAIN! The recovery time my dudes! Holding them as they try to press on through the battle! Ah yes.
Ok, that's all. Everyone can go back about their business.
Sam's reaction bonus:
Eddie Diaz: groaning loudly in pain, broken ribs, hasn’t taken any meds, can’t even walk on his own also Eddie Diaz: I’m fine!
What's your favorite abdominal injury for a character?
Hnnnngghh that's so hard to answer. Abdominal injures are so good. So many things there to hurt and so many different ways to do it. Stabs to the gut are fun. Impalement is a favorite. So is broken ribs. Love broken ribs. Deep bruising is fun. Can't go wrong with a good ole gunshot wound to gut either. Hard to choose.

- “A little”?
Fractured rib things
Hi. I’ve researched this topic to death. Here are some things I’ve learned:
- The first aid shock position for someone who doesn’t have a spine/neck injury and has difficulty breathing is a semi-reclining position.
- Generally, it is more comfortable to have the whumpee propped up with pillows in bed or sitting in a reclining chair rather than having them lie flat.
- Wrapping fractured ribs is usually advised against, as this puts the whumpee at greater risk of pneumonia, infection, or a collapsed lung.
- Going off of the last thing, in order to further avoid pneumonia, infection, or a collapsed lung, it is recommended that someone with fractured ribs take a deep breath roughly every one to two hours.
- Button-up shirts require less movement to put on, and are thereby less painful (bonus points if the caretaker puts it on for them).
- Speaking involves a lot of chest muscles, so if your whumpee has fractured ribs, they are going to sound very weak when they talk.
- A bruised diaphragm is a thing that can happen with a hard blow to the chest. For those who don’t know, the diaphragm is the muscle right below the lungs. It contracts to allow more room in the lungs when we inhale, and it relaxes when we exhale, pushing the air back out. So when a bruised diaphragm occurs, the lungs starts spasming and the whumpee cannot breathe properly.
- If the whumpee has bruised lungs, they will need to go on oxygen.
If you would like me to research something else to death and post a few facts, let me know! I like researching.
