hey, hi, if you’re a feminine trans boy, you are still valid and you’re still a boy.

if you like wearing skirts or dresses or things society deems as “feminine clothing”, you are still valid and you’re still a boy.

if you don’t want surgery or don’t want to go on T and you’re okay with your body, you are still valid and you’re still a boy.

feminine trans boys are just as valid as any other trans boy. if you’re a feminine trans boy, you’re still valid and you’re still a boy.

So I get asked all the time how I bind with KT tape– which I do pretty regularly.

I cut the strips in half and as you can see they hardly wrap around my ribs at all, and due to the type of tape it is it’s very safe (only real risk is to your skin/nipples due to the adhesive… And your bloodflow to your nipples can decrease over time).* KT tape is thin, flexible, and is meant to increase bloodflow and be worn by athletes for long stretches.

Taping lasts several days for me (even through swimming and showering)– and in the Texas heat this open chest binding is often preferable to other binders for me.

Keep in mind– this WILL NOT flatten you like a binder will unless you have a VERY SMALL chest. My chest is maybe a AA Cup, and is very muscular so this works well for me, and I’m only showing this because I get so many questions about it. Additionally– 1 roll of KT tape is $10-15 depending where you buy it (you can get it at drug stores, target, Amazon, etc), so 3 rolls will cost you the same as a binder would.

If you’re going to use tape, take it off once it starts to peel, and take it off in the shower or with water. Also you can put tissue over your nipples if you need. ((Please don’t follow my lead if this is not going to work for you, but this is my attempt to make sure people tape safely if they’re going to because I’ve done my research and talked to doctors and trainers for their opinions on taping your chest and I’ve seen people attempting to tape with KT tape and using it like an ace bandage wrapped all the way around their ribs which can be VERY DANGEROUS)). *These risks can cause healing post top surgery to have complications.

So people have been asking what KT Tape is and I think this post explains it perfectly! -Louie

Some trans guy tips from your dad

  • Don’t try that mascara/arm hair shit. I’ve been passing for more than a year with short, blond arm hair. It’s not an important secondary sex characteristic.
  • Board shorts (without pockets in the front) do wonders to minimize the width of your hips. Always choose board shorts over swim trunks. Choose them over cargo shorts if it’s appropriate.
  • Speak from your chest, never from your head.
  • The goal of binding should not be an entirely flat chest; you should bind for your body type.
  • GC2b makes the best binders out there, and their products are designed specifically for trans men/transmasculine people.
  • It might seem useless if you’re pre-T, but working out can be a big help for dysphoria.
  • Eyebrows are really important to passing pre-testosterone. Muss that shit up. Make them look unkempt.
  • When you ask for a haircut, make sure the edges in the back are squared, not rounded.
  • If you have peach fuzz, I would advise shaving it. Cis guys shed theirs when they go through puberty. Shaving can also help with facial hair dysphoria.
  • Don’t ever buy a binder from Amazon. They run in strange sizes (I was an XXL even though I’m a M in GC2b) and take weeks/months to come. It’s also difficult to breathe in them after a few hours.

Spread the word, especially for the board shorts thing!!!!!! They do WONDERS for making hips appear slimmer!!!!!

for my masculine children :-*

Adding a couple things.

-Patience is a virtue you need to come to terms with. Even on T, things take time. My voice dropped immediately, but my cycle continued for 6 months. We’re all different.

-In the summer, HYDRATE YOURSELF. A binder is an extra layer, and mine have always been very warm.

-When its not too hot, layers are your friend. You’d be surprised what even simply an undershirt can do to smooth out your look.

-You are going to get misgendered. This is a fact, and it sucks. Learn to politely correct people. Remember you might be the first (openly) trans person they meet, so be a good ambassador.

-When you start T, your smell will change. You will sweat like you’ve never sweat before, and it WILL STINK. Adjust your bathing habits accordingly.

*coughs in direction of my trans friendos*

If you have a really large chest you might do better with Underworks binders. They aren’t pretty, they’re not soft, but they do a good job and were the first on the market for a very long time. I couldn’t stand gc2b so if you’re like me, try Underworks.

Don’t double bind.

DON’T USE DUCK TAPE. I still have scars from a dumb decision I made as a teen and I’m 31 now.

When the time comes for top surgery, shop around. Find someone who will tailor your chest to your needs. Look at their portfolio. Compare surgeons. See if you can find someone who will work with your health insurance if you have it.

Be safe. Be healthy. Take your time. It’s not a race or a competition.

Reminders for Binders this fall season:

• If you have ANY trouble breathing, feel faint/dizzy, or are in pain: Take your binder off immediately, stretch your arms above your head then to your side, take several deep breaths in a row, cough to loosen any build up fluid in your lungs, and do not put your binder back on.

• If you are experiencing a cold/flu/allergies, and you feel you MUST bind, please consider using a looser binder, or one with a zipper/velcro for quick and easy removal.

• If you know you have a cold/flu/any infection in the lungs/ or stomach bug, please do not wear your binder until your symptoms have passed. (I know it’s hard, but be safe. Throwing up or having a coughing fit with one on is painful and dangerous.)

• When the weather starts to get cold, remember that layers are your friend, but overheating can still happen. Be aware of what you’re wearing with your binder, and keep track of your amount of exertion.

• If you are someone who suffers from panic attacks, anxiety, claustrophobia, etc, try to keep track of your usual signals and be ready to loosen/remove your binder when and where you can. (Again, zipper/velcro binders are the best for this) I would also suggest coats and jackets you can easily remove/open for this exact purpose.

• Again, if you suffer from any sort of anxiety disorder (or even if you don’t) , consider mapping out private spaces and restrooms ahead of time, in case you need to remove/adjust your binder.

• PLEASE do not wear your binder when you are sick. Seriously.

Bind safely, folks.

What are any safe binders to buy that have Velcro or zippers? I hear they aren’t as safe but if there is some kind that is I’d love a brand or link 👌🏻

http://www.t-kingdom.com/index.php has binders with zippers and I have personal experience with them. They offer standard sizes or customized for an extra fee.

http://www.shapeshifters.co makes completely customizable binders, though above a certain chest to ribcage ratio, they have to alter the binder when adding a zipper and it reduces the effectiveness.

These are the only two I’m aware of, but I hope it helps ^^

mom, trying her best: hey there was a sale on axe deodorant so i got you some

me: oh…. thanks, but i hate axe. i mean i’ll wear it so it doesn’t go to waste, but my favorite deodorant is that honeysuckle kind

mom: but….. but that’s women’s deodorant…. you’re a trans man, you’re a man, flowers smell like women

me: right, i forgot that men have to smell like ballsack at all times, damn

Actually I got the best advice from this dude I used to work with. One day I went in to give him a hug and commented, “Man you always smell amazing, you must get the fancy bullshit cologne.” Seriously, this man smelled the way those Christmas themed romance novel covers look, like burly men in plaid reclined on a sheepskin before a fire. That image, in smell form.

And he was like, “No, it’s Axe. I got it on clearance. I just use it wrong.”

He went and got it from his locker and had this whole, like, speech ready about how to do it and yeah. Turns out Axe smells incredible when you treat it like cologne. A miniscule amount on your pulse points and that’s it.

this is incredible advice thank you so much

My dear trans boys and nonbinary people who bind their chest,

Here’s your friendly reminder that no human chest is completely flat.

Your binder can not and is not supposed to make you 100% completely flat - human chests have muscles and fat and other important stuff inside!

Don’t believe anyone (including yourself) who tells you you need to double-bind to achieve a totally flat chest. Double binding will hurt you, and so will choosing a too small binder or any other “tips” you might read online.

A totally flat chest is not realistically achievable without hurting your body. And no, that’s not worth it.

With all my love,

Your Tumblr Mom

Things they don’t tell you about top surgery

- Talk to the surgeon about the size you want your new areolas/nipples (don’t be afraid to ask)

- Numbness. No one talks about this for guys who are about to have surgery. You’re going to be numb all in your chest area, especially where the incisions were. They cut nerves as they pass along your chest, and it can take up to a year to regenerate those nerves. Still, feels super foreign for the first two weeks

- Make your bed into a pillow chair, body pillow, two on each side, and two for your head.

- Sleep alone. I tried to sleep with my girlfriend and it was miserable. You really do need the entire bed for yourself

- Go on Groupon, & get yourself a 10 foot lightning cable iPhone charger, BEST THING EVER, can reach from wherever you are

- Don’t take a week off from work, take two. You will regret the one week, and love the extra time

- When they say “don’t move too much, even after the first week”. LISTEN. I moved way too much and got so sore super quickly.

- Drink lots of water & eat if your taking the pain medication, otherwise your stomach feels super funky.

- Get stool softeners, & don’t be afraid to take those babies. Don’t wait a week to poop. you’ll surely regret it.

- The drains are scary & they may hurt while draining or rewrapping your dressings, but once they come out, the second they do, its no more pain, its crazy.

i hope this helps someone, because i wish i knew all of this when i was having mine a month ago. Looking back its like everyone forgets all the real negatives, its a great experience, & i healed very well & quick compared to most, but the first few days are crazy. They hurt, suck but it gets better.

To the few guys I know having surgery this week!

-the headache you get a couple days after the surgery because the anesthesia is leaving your body hurts 200 times more than the surgery itself. And even that isn’t too bad.

-after a week or, you ITCH. It’s awful. Try not to touch your stitches too much. An ice pack will help.
