[Image Description: An infographic titled, “What Is Pansexuality?” in white text, over a light pink background, next to a graphic of a panda head, outlined in pink, yellow, and blue circles.]

Pansexuality Is… The sexual attraction (pansexual) or romantic attraction (panromantic) to people of all gender identities. It is also defined as attraction to people that is not determined by gender identity. [White text over a light yellow background, next to a light green check mark outlined in a blue square.]

Pansexuality Is Not… Trans-inclusive. Anyone, of any identity can be attracted to trans people. That is not exclusive to pan people. More inclusive than bisexuality. Sexuality is not about being inclusive and bisexuality does not adhere to the gender binary. A new “Tumblr fad” or “freeing millennial lifestyle”. Pansexuality has been around for a long time, it is only now gaining more visibility. [White text over a light blue background, next to a light red cross mark outlined in a light pink square.]

What About Bisexuality? Bisexuality is the attraction to people of two or more gender identities. There are similarities and overlap between pansexuality and bisexuality, but while different bisexual people can be attracted to different (amounts of) genders, pansexuality always comes down to being attracted to people of all gender identities. [White text over a light pink background, next to a golden scale outlined in a light yellow square.]

In Conclusion… Pansexual/panromantic is just another label that helps people better understand and define their identity and put a name to what they’re feeling. If this is the label someone feels the most connected to and represented by, then please, respect that. Identifying as pansexual/panromantic does not hurt anyone, so again, respect that. To kick off #PanWeek, we have an infographic explaining what pansexuality is, what it isn’t, how it differs from bisexuality, and how identifying as pan needs to be respected.
