The penultimate issue of “Deface the Face” is finally out, and after the surprisingly great last part, this one’s a bit of a letdown. It’s basically just an issue-long fight scene with a ton of expository voice-over explaining who Kobra is.
So yeah, it’s a full issue of three of my least favorite things in superhero comics:
1.) Long fight scenes that don’t have any emotional or character stakes
2.) Exposition dump, especially long-winded exposition dump that takes up most of the issue
3.) Faceless nameless enemies who serve no other purpose but to be bad at killing their targets and then get taken out (terrorists, fanatics, ninjas, robots, aliens, etc)
On the plus side, it features Batman and Harvey fighting side by side, with Harvey being so Extra(TM) he might as well by a Robin, all while being grumpy that he’s not allowed to kill anyone.
So yeah, it wasn’t a total wash. But still, we’re going to have to wait for one more issue to get to anything substantial regarding Harvey and Bruce. And even then, we’re gonna have to slog through the final confrontation with Kobra himself to save Gotham, blah blah blah, no one cares, there are no stakes.
That said, both the teaser at the end and the next issue’s cover/solicit say that Two-Face “dies” in the next issue. Or rather, the teaser says it’s Harvey...
... while the solicit and cover refers to Two-Face.
So, yeah. Kinda concerned about where that’s going, but the plus side is that whatever happens will quickly be ignored along with every single other substantial event to happen to Harvey over the past fifteen years ha ha ha no one at DC gives a shit
