Valentino Haute Couture Spring 2014
Designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli delved into a fantasy world for their spring couture show, with an ode to the opera and the animal kingdom. The opening look, a tulle gown, was embroidered with the score from La Traviata; a gray cashmere coat adorned with a menagerie of jungle creatures took more than 300 hours to finish by hand; and a cape inspired by Madame Butterfly, covered with multicolored versions of the insects made of dyed feathers, took 550 hours to create.
“Couture is an opportunity to dream for us, whereas ready-to-wear is our opportunity to give dreams to many people," Chiuri said. "My conversation is with all kinds of women. I’m not just interested in dressing myself. We respect and love all kinds of individuality.”
