Nickelodeon - 1985
Repost from my old blog. A very small compilation of Nickelodeon adverts for The Mysterious Cities of Gold.
Just the way I remember it!
It’s ridiculous how vividly I remember every single detail of these N.B.C. Saturday morning bumpers.
I recently stumbled upon the resumé of Steve Shapiro, the man responsible for this man.
“Designer, June 1990, Klasky-Csupo, Los Angeles, CA: Made storyboards for company’s bumpers on NBC. Designed the character, ‘The Perpetually Grinning Man,’ which was purchased by NBC for continuous use during the 1990-1991 Saturday morning season."
According to an old fan-written transcript of a Devo laserdisc, Mark Mothersbaugh composed the B.G.M. and voiced the P.G.M.
MTV Bumper - 1988
It’s ridiculous how vividly I remember every single detail of these N.B.C. Saturday morning bumpers.
Am I the only one who wonders who created that “trademark” 90s Nickelodeon aesthetic, an eidolonic montage of such shown here?
Because, I’d love to find out what those artists are doing today…
This video is a medley of various commercial bumpers from the Eighties and Nineties. C.L.G. has collected information on many of them. The stop-motion bumpers were made by Olive Jar Animation Studios, now Loop Filmworks. The fruit and dinosaur bumpers were by Joey Ahlbum. The C.G.I. teacup bumper was by Edward Bakst. The C.G.I. orange blob bumpers were by Video Image Effects, now Blue Sky Studios.
