I love this intro. You should listen to it on headphones.
Orbitron - Outer Space Men (Colorforms)
A seasonally appropriate Bowie song.
The Creation of the Humanoids (1962)
It's funny because I spend so much time on Deviantart looking at monsters created by electronic computers.

I finally figured out where I know that face from. It's been bugging me for a while. The photo of the woman wearing the diamond is on the carbon page of Matter by Ralph E. Lapp. The diamond is called the Idol's Eye, and the book credits the picture to Bob Gomel. Doing a little research, it seems the photo appeared in a magazine feature in 1963 (probably Life, which employed Gomel as staff photographer at the time). I still don't know who that woman is, but she reminds me of David Bowie in drag in the inner sleeve of the Lodger album.
None of this is really important; it just ties up a loose end in my mind.
Diener Industries made a toy in the late Seventies based on this creature.

Stills from Battle Beyond the Sun, the 1962 American localization of the 1959 Russian science fiction film Nebo Zovyot or The Heavens Call.
Roger Corman was in charge of the localization, and he made little attempt at accurate English translations. Once the movie was dubbed, edited, and supplemented with newly filmed scenes, it was almost a new movie.
Lunar livestock from a 1964 film adaptation of The First Men in the Moon by H. G. Wells, brought to life by the late Ray Harryhausen.

Carole Ann Ford looking cute.
Fantasy art from 1964 by Ren Wicks, who also illustrated N.A.S.A. publications. I'd love to find a better copy of the Centaur.
Like the last post, these are paintings I would have put on my fantasy art blog if I weren't keeping it strictly safe for work.
