Sorting LoK characters in hogwarts houses

Korra: Gryffindor. She’s extremely brave and loyal to her friends and family, and sometimes makes stupid decisions while helping or protecting them. Eventually her bravery leads to her giving herself up to save the airbenders from another extinction. She isn’t afraid of a fight (especially in book one and two) and even likes to solve problems by fighting. (Not as much in book 4, because she learned from her mistakes.)

Mako: I’m seriously debating in which house he belongs. He’s loyal two his friends and brother, and later his family. But, as we see in book 2, he’d have no problem betraying his girlfriend in the name of the law. Very just like a Ravenclaw. He’s also always the one to help Bolin get out of sticky situations he got in by accident. Mako often even tells Bolin how stupid some of his ideas are, thus being the logical one of the family. But Mako would also rather stay in the city and do police work than go and look for his grandmother because he’d be awkward spending time with both Korra and Asami. I feel like Mako’s more like a Ravenclaw than any other house. He doesn’t feel comfortable getting in situations that would land him in trouble, not even for friends, and is very strict about his ideals and beliefs.

Bolin: HUFFLEPUFF. And there’s not even a debate about it. He’s the cutest little hulk boy to ever exist! He’d even risk getting killed to win his girlfriend back, and to save someone he cares about. All of the things he did were either because he wanted to help his friends or to help other people in need, or to be able to keep doing something he enjoys doing. The reason he joined shady shin again in book one and almost got his bending stolen by Amon? Because he wants to continue pro-bending, something he, his brother and Korra enjoy doing. The reason he joined Kuvira? To help people in a broken down kingdom after the Zaheer problems. Bolin is a hufflepuff, a big buff hufflepuff.

Asami: Ravenclaw. She turned on her dad because he was doing something she didn’t agree with, even after defending him when she didn’t know yet. She had her vision of what was good and bad, and her dad was doing something bad, so she went against him to make things right. She helped the Avatar and her friends fight Amon, even when she just went through a very unclear breakup (thanks Mako.) After all of that she took over her father’s company and proceeded to make her way to the top of the industry. She’s an inventor and an incredible engineer, and also an architect (she helped redesign the roads in Republic City.)

Tenzin: definitely not a hufflepuff like his father was. He was very strict when it came to his culture and his job as a councilman in the city. He gets easily frustrated when people don’t listen, or when people don’t like his training methods (both seen in book one with Korra, book 2 with his siblings, and book 3 with the airbenders.) He also doesn’t like situations he can’t control (like Korra doing pro-bending or Jinora growing up and deserving her arrows) and doesn’t like doing things outside of the law. (I feel like he pretends not to like it but he secretly gets a kick out of it.) I would personally also put him in Ravenclaw. But I’m not sure. Any experts here to prove me wrong? Go ahead!

Lin Bei Fong: She’s also very strict with rules, but only the rules she makes. If she needs to break the law to get what she wants? So fucking be it. She’s very loyal to the people she cares about. Gotta throw my ass at Amon so the only airbenders in the world can escape? You bet your ass I will! But even if she’s very loyal she’s also very unforgiving. It took her years to soften up to Tenzin after he broke up with her. She even wrecked poor air temple island when it happened. Her own sister scarred her both physically and emotionally, and that also took her years to speak to her again. After her mother disappeared she didn’t even bother to look for her because she was still angry at her. I would put Lin in Slytherin but she could also fit in Gryffindor. Slytherdor it is!

Jinora: I’m going to make this one short. She was a gifted child from the beginning. The only thing that interested her was to get better at airbending and following the philosophy by the book. Speaking of books, she loved reading so much she had read about all of the adventures of the Gaang and even asked her grandmother for more. She communicated with the spirits better than her own father could! She got her arrows at the age of eleven! Which means she was an airbending MASTER at the age of eleven! Ravenclaw!

Ikki: this one is even shorter. Hufflepuff. She likes making animal friends more than she likes her own family, but don’t think she wouldn’t whoop your ass if you even tried to touch one of her disgusting siblings. She’s very kind and caring, and a very enthusiastic child, but she absolutely hates being ignored or turned away.

Meelo: Difficult one. When he does something, he does it good, when his father told him to train pokey the lemur he was reluctant because he’s his friend, but afterwards he had trained an entire army of lemurs. He doesn’t like being left out but is loyal to his friends. He takes A LOT of pride in what he does (especially book 4) and tends to make things difficult for himself so he could establish his manliness (like throwing away food so they could live off the wilds like true adventurers). Also his fartbending is gross but still the cutest thing ever! I’m feeling Gryffindor or Slytherin, but more on the Gryffindor side because he doesn’t always think everything through. Not a very strategic fella. Gryffindor it is!

I feel like doing Bumi and Kya, but maybe in another post, because this one’s getting a tad long. If there’s other characters you’d want me to sort (like the minor characters from Atla or LoK) just let me now but this is it for now because my fingers are getting tired! Anything you don’t agree with or you’d like to add on feel free to do so!

Ok so I just saw a post sorting the avatar characters in hogwarts houses and these idiots put Aang in Slytherin so Imma do it myself to set the record straight

Aang is a fucking hufflepuff and you can fight me over it. He’s not ambitious at all, he doesn’t even want to be the avatar for most of book one. He couldn’t let katara go because he loves her (not because he’s selfish!! He saw his friend and crush was in danger so he went out to save her and make sure she was okay before he was able to let her go) and if that’s not hufflepuff idk what is. He didn’t even kill ozai and we all know a ravenclaw would do it because it is the most logic choice, a slytherin would do it because it will be in his benefit the most and a gryffindor would do it because murder.

In conclusion: aang = hufflepuff

Katara: I can’t just put katara in one house. She’s a bit of everything. She’s kind and compassionate like a hufflepuff, but she can also be unforgiving and ambitious like a slytherin, smart and resourceful like a ravenclaw and rash and brave like a gryffindor. I have no idea what to put her in, so for now I’ll make it a huffleclaw (srsly I have no idea where she’s supposed to be)

Sokka: sokka is a slytherin to the max. Yes he’s smart and resourceful but he’s ambitious as fuck. He strives to be the best leader possible and gets bummed out when it doesn’t work. He’s also a sarcastic little asshole who loves to annoy people with his presence.

Toph: toph is smart, but sometimes she says or does some stupid shit. She loves to taunt people and doesn’t care if it doesn’t end up well for her. She’s very straight to the point, and not really the most cautious person in the gaang. She wants to be the greatest earthbender in the world and how do you do that? Beat people up in an arena that’s how. People tell you you can’t metalbend? Fucking destroy them with your new found skills and lock em up out of spite. Toph’s a gryffindor. Next.

Zuko: Hufflepuff. Now hear me out on this one. Zuko is the prime example of a gryffindor on the outside. He’s brave and ambitious, but makes rash decisions to try and get what he wants without thinking it through. BUT. Zuko on the inside is just this kind hearted boy. All he wants is his father’s appreciation and love. He’d already lost his mother, all he wanted was to be accepted. And when he made friends he did everything to help them reach their goals. He eventually realised his destiny was to help aang, and that’s how he would end up getting accepted. Zuko looks like he could kill you on the outside but on the inside he’s the sweetest cinnamon roll with a heart of gold. Fucking fight me. (Yes he did some slytherin-y stuff too and he’s also a sarcastic little shit but the majority to me is hufflepuff)

Uncle Iroh: he’s the purest old man to exist in the avatar world. The only thing he wants is to help his traumatised nephew reach his full potential. And make tea for people. That’s it. He’s also the ambassador for world peace and the head of the white lotus, an organisation that accepts people from all nations. Iroh is a hufflepuff.

Suki: Suki is very smart and ambitious. After she met sokka she wanted to help wherever she could along with the kyoshi warriors. She protected the Avatar’s skybison until the end and never even flinched in front of azula, even if she knew the battle would be over soon. While sokka and zuko were discussing the plan suki made some calculations in her head and went head on for the warden before those idiots even had time to react. I would personally put her in ravenclaw, but she has some gryffindor in her too.

Mai: she’s very loyal to her friends and lover, even when that lover had betrayed her and her country. She was going to face azula, a fire bending godess who can shoot lightning (!!) from her finger tips, with a bunch of knifes. She’s sarcastic and smart, but not very ambitious (she’s bored for most of the show) and the only reason she initially joined azula is so she might get some entertainment out of it. Mai is a slytherin and I love it.

Azula: slytherin. I don’t even need to explain this one but I will. She’s the smartest villain of the whole fuckin show. She knew the avatar was alive and instead of actually fighting him she decided to play it smart and waste their time a little. She wants people to fear her and goes sort of insane when they don’t. In the end her own ambition to be a scary fire lord is what lead to her downfall.

Ty lee: now this one’s also kind of difficult. She’s absolutely adorable but deadly as fuck. She could fucking stun you and giggle while doing it. She’s extremely loyal to her friends and even attacked azula, again, a fucking fire bending prodigy who can shoot lightning from her fucking fingers, so she could protect her friend. I feel like she’s a hufflepuff but a fucking dangerous hufflepuff. You piss her off and you’re dead.

That’s it for now. I could also sort the legend of korra in their houses, or some minor characters if you want. The only reason I actually made this is because I’m fucking salty someone even dared to put aang in slytherin. So there.

Zuko is a huge Hufflepuff and I will fight anyone who says otherwise

@avatar-chang Have you seen @sortinghatchats? They have a post (If I recall correctly) sorting the ATLA gang using their system! :)

It’s exactly the post I saw and exactly the post I disagree with. They based aang’s house on two scenarios. One: where he crumbles up the note from bato in a rather selfish act because he doesn’t want his friends to leave him, two: where he can’t let go of katara and goes to save her in a “selfish” decision.

If you base someone’s house on one or two things they did you obviously haven’t analysed the entire thing and you obviously dislike the character.

Aang never wanted to hurt a soul, which is why he lives a vegetarian lifestyle, which is why he never wanted to kill ozai.

He crumbles up the note for bato because he didn’t want to be left behind by his friends. He knew how badly they wanted to see their father, and he even overheard them talking about going to see him. But he didn’t hear where they decided to choose him over their father for the sake of the world and the sake of their friend. After experiencing a feeling of loneliness he finally found a new family, and from what he heard they were planning on leaving him. Of course he’d do anything to prevent that. It’s such a hufflepuff trait, not wanting to be alone. How they could possibly miss that is beyond me.

The part where he chose katara over the fate of the world was also very much hufflepuff thing to do. He wanted to make sure his friend and love of his life was okay. He saw a vision of her in danger and immediately sprinted in action to find her. It’s exactly what a hufflepuff would do for their friends.

What they also missed is that aang eventually questioned his decision. He knows it may not have been the right choice and asks iroh for advice (who is also a hardcore hufflepuff).

The fact that you’d put him in slytherin because these two (2) decisions are selfish shows that you also don’t know what slytherins are all about. Slytherins are exceptionally smart. They wouldn’t just blindly jump into danger like a gryffindor or hufflepuff. Slytherins like to do things that are in their own best interest, which can be narrowed down as selfish, but usually that would give it a negative tone. Slytherins are also ambitious, and (at least in book one) aang wasn’t ambitious at all. He didn’t want to be the avatar, and the only reason he had his arrow at such an early age is because he invented a move he initially used to fool around.

In conclusion: fuck you if you ever think someone is a slytherin for making two (2!!) selfish decisions.

Eeeh…

I wave both Katara and Zuko closer to the Gryffindor table, honestly. Although I do agree they straddle both Gryffindor and Hufflepuff houses pretty evenly. Katara leaning Gryffindor more so than Zuko.

Remember, their most notable qualities aren’t the ones that put them in those houses. In the same way that Aang’s cleverness and open-mindedness doesn’t directly place him in slytherin, Katara’s mothering nature and Zuko’s inherent gentle and guiding nature are not their only traits.

I agree that Aang belongs in Hufflepuff. He loves to help people, and is shown to wear himself out by doing so. He has an amazing sense of humor and a long stretch of patience that is deeply indicative of Hufflepuffs. Yes he’s clever, but Hufflepuffs aren’t exactly stupid either.

His greatest conflicts are that of moral conflicts. For a slytherin- the great conflict is usually “how to get what I want without people thinking less of me? What is the smartest way to work, not the hardest? What is the way that will give ME the least amount of consequences?” For a Hufflepuff those conflicts turn into, “How do I get what I want without hurting people? What’s the best way to do this so there are no consequences for anyone else? How much can I give of myself without it being too much?” Now which of those conflicts sounds more like Aang? Hufflepuffs are the epitome of Self-sacrifice, ethics, and what is right for the most people.

It’s a little harder for Zuko and Katara- because their conflicts are usually some variation of, “Is this the right thing to do?” Very rarely are they thinking about, “Who else is this going to hurt?”

Especially in the earlier seasons, they’re incredibly brash, very rarely thinking about the consequences of their actions. Katara getting arrested for the sake of another bender, Zuko picking fights with SO MANY PEOPLE that seen to clearly outmatch him, THROUGOUT the series (he never gets better at that as far as I can tell), Katara getting the most angry and it affecting her bending to such a degree, both of their needs to protect their friends, even if it means the death of the other person.

Katara I especially want to place in Gryffindor because she reminds me so much of Hermione. Yes she’s smart and has a deep love and fascination for knowledge for its own sake. Yes she has such a loving and motherly personality, that’s hard not to scream Hufflepuff at. However, she has such a tendency to feel for what is right rather than thinking it. She follows her strict moral code and she never strays away from it, even at the cost of possibly humiliating herself and getting hurt. Remember the ice-dodging episode? She was given the mark of the Brave- she stands against anything and everyone, even the rest of the world, if it means protecting the ideals and people she believes in most.

Kinda hard to separate Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors though. They both have very similar ideals, thoughts and conflicts within themselves. :/ If I had to guess, the defining line between Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs is just how wide their protective circle is and how passionate they are about that circle. The only reason Katara and Zuko refused to kill their respective targets (Yon Rha for Katara, Azula for Zuko) is that they both felt pity for their enemies, not necessarily emphathy (very arguable with Zuko, as it’s not until she completely looses that we all remember she was just fourteen, so MAYBE Zuko empathized rather than pitied, but that’s a small and fuzzy line all on its own).  Aang refused to kill Ozai in spite of his MANY transgressions not out of pity, but out of the profound and undeniable idea that he was human, and didn’t deserve to die. That even his life was sacred and deserved the greatest chance at longevity.

Katara does remind me of hermoine! Okay gryffindor it is for katara

I’m still sticking with hufflepuff for zuko though
