Guys, when Azulon ordered Ozai to kill Zuko, do y'all think his intention was for Ozai to actually do it? Or do you think Azulon just told Ozai to do that to teach him a lesson about family and didn't expect Ozai to want to go through with it?
I rlly don't know the answer myself. Like i want to believe in the goodness of people but seeing how ruthless Ozai was, he had to get that from somewhere right
I do want to remind people that Azula overheard the conversation and went to Zuko to taunt him with it: "dad's going to kill you! Really, he is." Now idk how well we can trust Azula's version of the story, but i do think this confirms that Azulon did order Ozai to kill his own son.
My question is: did he intent for Ozai not to go through with it so he could question his loyalty and honor and whatnot, and tell him what a disgrace he was for trying to steal Iroh's birthright after the death of his son, OR did he intent for Ozai to go through with it and suffer for it?
Because, i hate to break it to Azulon but neither of these punishments would have worked for Ozai either way. Mans does not care about his son. If he had suggested to kill Azula Ozai would have still done it but at least he would've been a bit more sad about it. But Zuko? Seems like Azulon didn't really know his own son if he thought this would have been some form of a punishment. Ozai was glad to do it, hopping and skipping his way to Zuko's room with a hatchet as soon as he finished his sentence.
